Sorry for getting off topic. I just thought that maybe some of you would be able to help me out....

My sister purchased a house that has TERRIBLE soap scum in one of the bathtubs....I was just wondering what the best product to remove it. We have tried Kaboom, Tilex, Scrubbing Bubbles. Any other suggestions???

TIA :goodvibes

I second the Magic Eraser suggestion. This what I use in my tub and it does wonders! You'll wonder why you didn't try that before.;)..

Magic earaser DOES work, but you have to worry about what the area is made out of before you use it. If its not safe for it, it could dull the area AND make it a problem area for dirt later on. It's listed on the box whats safe. It works on the fine sandpaper concept or like a buffer. But, if it is a safe area.... I say, scub away! I love the things~
If the are is not safe for it, how about lime away or something made for the true hard stains. good luck!:thumbsup2

I was also going to say magic eraser! Works on everything.

Get one of the scrub-free soap scum remover products, but you might have to use it more than once it it's really thick. If you have to reapply, be sure to let the area dry, or at least squeegy it off so it isn't really soaking wet, before applying again. Diluting it does no good at all.

I always take a scratch-free pad and give it a little scrub with the soap scum remover as I find it helps to dislodge the really thick stuff (lets just say DH isn't good at cleaning bathrooms, his one cleaning duty, and I have to bat cleanup - pun fully intended - every once in a while).

Oh, and if it's actually because of really hard water, you might try CLR or something along those lines. Good luck!

P.S. I'll second the cautionary tale about Magic Erasers - they absolutely WILL dull some finishes and materials!

I've used Soft and Scrub. You have to use a non-scratch pad and a little bit of elbow grease, but it doesn't dull anything and it leaves my bathroom clean. We have hard water and the soap scum builds up like crazy. I use the Clorox Green works for my DS's bathtub since it's supposed to be safer. It doesn't take as much scrubbing, but it seems to build up faster in there. HTH. :goodvibes

Try Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. I will never buy another shower cleaning product again!

We have super hard water and seem to have trouble with soap scum building up on the hard water buildup (alot of building up, I know!) One day, I ran out of Tilex, and out of desperation, I started squirting the toilet bowl cleaner all down the sides of the shower. I found it helps to sort of spread the thick liquid evenly with a sponge, otherwise it leaves definite streaks! Let it sit for 15 minutes or so, and then do a gentle scrub and rinse. It smells good (a little strong during application though--keep the fan on), and I swear, I've never seen better results! And I really didn't have to scrub much at all--mostly just distributing the cleaner and a gentle "exfoliation"!

You know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention! :thumbsup2

Method brand tub and tile cleaner. It is a "green" product, smells like mint and cleans everything like a dream. It comes in a tube and is under $5. Squeeze it on, scrub it with a brush and rinse it off. So easy and great. I used it to clean my kitchen grout and it did an amazing job.

If you have trouble with recurring soap scum after getting it clean, I suggest switching to a liquid soap. I've always heard it's the stuff that makes soap hard that causes soap scum. We switched and it's made a world of difference.

Magic Eraser works great! Also, try Soft Scrub spray foam. You spray it on and leave it for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a wet sponge. It works great on our shower!

Crud Cutter (might be spelled Krud Kutter) along with the Magic Eraser.

I've used baking soda and a sponge and amazingly it worked...
The soap scum wasn't horrible but I could see it, so it was
definitely there. Plus no smells or environmental issues...

Wal-Mart brand Scrubbing Bubbles foam. It's like 97 cents. Spray it on thick. Walk off for about 5 minutes. Spray it on thick again....use the whole can. Walk off for 20 minutes or so. When you go back it will wipe off with no elbow grease at all.

My husband used to work at a truck (18 wheeler) dealership and got filthy. We would have soap scum in the tub that I wouldn't notice until he came home all dirty and covered in grease. Needless to say, it showed up then. The Wal-Mart stuff worked great and at under $1 for a can I didn't mind using the whole thing if I didn't have to scrub and scrub.

Now my brother on the other hand, he swears by WD-40 for cleaning soap scum. :rotfl:
