I just won a slow cooker at a silent auction, and I'm not sure how to use it. Does there need to be water in the bottom holder where you place the crock in? I don't see anything in the instructions that says that but I know my friends crock pot works that way. TIA

No. Mine doesn't require water. It only comes out of the base so you can wash it.

Not unless you are trying to electrocute yourself!

Google the brand+manual. You can usually read them online.

Any liquid goes in the crock, not the base. Definately go online and read the instructions, didn't it come with any???

There are some great crock pot cookbooks in the library. Take some out before you buy one. There are also tons of websites with recipes, just start googling things like 'beef stew crockpot.'

I have found things that are boneless needs liquid in the crock with it. If you are doing something like a roaster chicken, you don't need to add any liquid. Recently I did a 6.5 pound whole chicken, put some cut lemons inside the bird and more slices on it. Added garlic and rosemary. It was so juicy!
