My DD age 10 has asked for a skateboard for Christmas. I need some advise on what to buy for her. Thanks in advance.

My DD-12 also asked for one. I was not going to bother buying one but........I found one for $10 at ToysRUs on their green tag %50 off aisle. It even had a "sort of girly" design. For that price I won't feel bad if she doesn't get much use out of it. Unfortunately our wheather will limit its use. I can't imagine a first time user would need a pricey top of the line model. Just my opinion, hope this helps and Merry Christmas.

I plan to move our vehicles out of the garage Christmas morning so she can take it for a spin!! :sunny:

Depends on how much money you want to spend. My son had recently asked for a "FLIP" brand board or ELEMENT. I guess they are the "hot" ones at his school right now.

My DS aged 17 is getting one he designed on the CCS website for Christmas. Black Label, $154.00 later......

What you get depends on the use, DS will get my money's worth out of an expensive board but a little girl who is new to it really only needs a department store board. Something with larger wheels is good for beginners.

Edited to add: make sure if you get her a board that you get her a helmet if she doesn't have one, and knee and elbow pads.

We too have been into the skateboarding thing for a few years now. My ds is 15 and all he does is skateboard!!!

I would start her on something cheap. Wal-mart, TRU, Target all have them cheap. If she does like it and wants to continue doing it - I would then move up to something more expensive.

Some of the online skateboard shops are running sales now on completes (as they call them) - where they are already built. You can buy the components separately, but then you have to put it together yourself - unless you are at the store buying it. Some of thoses sights are...

ActionVillage.com
CCS.com
skateparkoftampa.com
galacticg.com

I try to get them as cheap as I can - I know some are selling the brand name completes for about $89 right now.

There are usually a skate shop in every town nowadays. We have several, but beware they usually charge more - from my experience. If you happen to live in Orlando FL the GalacticG shop I mentioned above is an actual store and has really great prices. We stopped in there this past August while we were at WDW and went ahead and got my ds school shoes as their prices were so good!

Good luck! Skateboarding can be expensive!!!!

Well, thanks for the replies. I did find a marked down skateboard at Toys R Us yesterday (ended up being less than $8. Figure I can't go too wrong for that price! They didn't have any girl-y ones at all, but the one I got was a Fairly Oddparents one, so think it will be OK with her.
