OT: Skateboards

Sorry this is so off topic but you folks are my go to crew for advice!

My 8 year old dd wants a skateboard for Christmas. I don't know anything about them but I think it's cool that she wants something none of her friends have. She has commented about wanting a skateboard all year.

Any advice? I want to buy her something nicer than a $20 hello kitty skateboard but I don't know where to begin.

I would go to your local Zumiez skate shop (they have them in nearly every mall) for suggestions. The skateboards there are too pricey for the average beginner/young child in my opinion - but they will let you know what size board to look for.

I got DS a skateboard last Christmas at Walmart for $40 - it's actually a really nice basic wide board and has held up over time. You can always add a giftcard to the skate shop so she can pick out her own designs.
