Any Advice on how to tell my roommate that I will be moving to a new dorm/single room next semester (our current semester ends tmrw, we both will be leaving tmrw)?

I really am dreading this, she asked me a few weeks ago if I was happy in the room with her and if I wanted to move, and at the time; I was.Now I've gotten this room in another dorm and it's a single.

I applied for this single room at the end of the last semester (May) and was put on a list. My name just came up on the list and I can finalily have the room I want.

I'm sorry, I had no idea where else to ask college people for advice.

I don't know how you would start that conversation, but just make sure you tell her that you wanted a single before you met her and you're sorry that you guys won't be roommates anymore but you've been waiting forever so you definitely want to snag the single while you can.

Maybe start with "I got this really cool opportunity... but it means I'm going to have to leave you..." and then explain how it's not her at all, and it's the lottery. If she goes to the school with you, she should know how that works, right?

I mean, really, her opinion in the end doesn't matter. Why would she be like "Noooo, stay with me!!!" (And why would you?) I don't think she'll be hurt by it if you explain it's not because of her. Stay friends, don't avoid her because you feel awkward about it, otherwise she's going to think it is because of her.

I would just tell her you just found out that you got the single that you requested before this year. You could say that you wanted a room to yourself to minimize distractions while you were studying, or to not have to keep someone else up if you need to be up late working on a paper or whatever. Then, if you two get a long well, which it sounds like you do you can always ask her if she'd want to stop by your room next semester for a movie night or make some fun plans with her for when you return. That way she knows you guys can still be friends and the move has nothing to do with her.

Have fun with your single! I've loved having one myself.

Thanks, Everything that ya'll said makes perfect sense! :)

Good luck! I'm sure she'll be understanding.
...And if she isn't, who cares? You don't have to live with her anymore! hahahahahaha
jk jk I'm sure it will go smoothly!
