While voting today, my DD5 was sitting on the floor next to me. The table next to us fell on her and hit her in the head and neck. It was a heavy wood table with a metal edge and took two of us to lift it off her. They figured out later that the leg was not locking in place and someone leaned against it. She was screaming and I couldn't understand what she was saying other than her neck hurt. She has been acting fine but has a bad headache. Should I still be worried?

Better safe than sorry - I would get her checked out

Best wishes to you and your family - Whip

I cant stress to you enough that she should be checked out! A spinal cord injury can slowly come on and once it sets in sometimes it is not reversable damage. I say this not to scare you but for you to know the warning signs....
pain, tingling, heavy feeling limbs, lack of sensation. An ex bf is a t1 para, If this was my child i would be at the er asking for a head and spine ct.

Yes, you should be concerned. A large item like that falling on a child warrants at the very minimum a call to the pediatrician if not a visit to the ER.

Yes you should be concerned! I am an ER nurse and spinal cord injuries along with head injuries don't always present themselves immediately but over time. Take her to the ER and have her checked out. Watch for vomiting and dizziness too. Please take her. Best wishes!:goodvibes

A heavy table that took two people to lift hit your daughter in the head... yes you should have her checked out. There may be any number of invisible injuries she could have sustained. Better safe than sorry.

Your post really got to my heart and fears, so I emailed a spinal cord researcher and he was very adamant that you get your daughter to the hospital asap. (He is a Dr. and lead researcher at rutgers university spinal cord injury clinic) I hate to say this but i am shocked that they didnt insist on calling an ambulance!

To others....... NEVER EVER allow a person with any injury to the head neck or back to be moved! call an ambulance!!!!! even if they get up and can move on there own it is very dangerous, i know several quads who have had late onset injuries. Sometimes a bone can splinter off and injure the cord, amongst other major injuries that dont appear right away due to cord slowly swelling.

Goofy's mom, i am in Youngstown, right outside of Cleveland too, if you need ANTHING, (moral support, sitting with the other kids in teh waiting room ect) let me know and i will meet you at the hospital! Just please get her to the ER!

I do hope she's ok. Please post back and let us know what the doctors said. {{hugs}}

Thanks! I called her doctor and we went over everything that happened. She is doing well and has no signs of a concussion. I wish that I had made them call an ambulance or gone straight to the doctor but I was really upset that she got hurt and wasn't thinking straight. Everyone kept saying that if there was no blood that she was fine. I asked if I needed to file a report and they said no. I didn't sleep at all last night because I kept checking her to make sure she was okay. She wanted to go to school today and I had her teacher (PreK) watch her to see if she noticed anything wrong. I am still worried that something might show up later - she is still soo little! Thanks for all your concern.:hug:
