I'm going to be selling some of my art ("waterscape") photos for the very first time. I have no idea what I'm doing. After several years of having nice photos seen only by anyone inside my house, I showed my stuff to some new acquaintances who own a VERY small shop in our seasonal resort town next to Atlantic City.
They're trying to change the shop from a low-rent souvenir place into somewhat of an art gallery. It really doesn't look like much, but they don't lack optimism and enthusiasm.
My things will be there on consignment, they'll take 20 or 25 percent. My question is about how much to charge. I know things can vary widely depending on location, etc., but what should I expect the retail price to be for: unframed and unmatted 8 x 10s? matted 8 x 10s? framed and matted 8 x 10s? framed and matted 4 x 6s and 5 x 7s? a vertical frame with a 3-slotted matte filled in with 4 x 6s which are three tints of the same photo? and a framed 16 x 20?
I know I'm all over the place here, but I'm just trying to get an idea of what's "right." My opening reception is this coming Saturday night.
