Hi everyone!

I am looking at buying tickets for an event at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Are the seats with the best view right up front? My Mom and I are both pretty short, so I'm wondering if balcony seats may be better for us than orchestra seats. Are there any experts out there?

Thanks!

Royal Alex theatre has two balconies. I have seen shows from the 2nd balcony and the 1st balcony, and from the second row orchestra. I am fairly tall, and found myself having to look 'way' up for the orchestra. Further back might be better, as the floor (like almost all theatres) is sloped. The 2nd balcony has a very VERY steep slope. It is like watching the show between your knees. The front of the 2nd balcony would be good though. The front of the 1st balcony is also very good. They are considered the 'house' seats, and when dignitaries see a show, that's where they sit. (I was lucky enough to be at the Command Performance of Les Miz when Lady Di visited.)

Hope that helps!

I agree with PP. I have been to the RA many times and the best seats are the first balcony, down near the front. Off to either side is not too bad either.

**Adam, you were at the command performance of Les Miz, my absolute all time favorite show, with Lady Di??? That must have been an amazing time. I am sooooooo jealous. I love Lady/Princess Di and always will.

Have a great day everyone!

We sat in the mid-orchestra and the 1st row of the second balcony, and the 1st row of the second balcony was better. We would clearly see the actors' faces in both spots, but were looking down instead of up in the second balcony.

I'm with everyone else-1st balcony. Once my dh got tix for Les Mis for my bday about 6 rows back, Orchestra, and they were way too close (he was trying to do a good thing by getting 'the best' seats).

Yes, it was QUITE the experience. Totally unplanned, mind you. I had booked my tickets months in advance. It was just luck of the draw that it was my show. I sat about 15 seats away from her, same row. I could have touched her when she came down the aisle with her entourage. The night was also memorable as the ONLY time I had to start showing my ticket to people at least 6 BLOCKS from the theatre, in order to get in.

Ironically, she died on my wedding night. Go figure.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in the pre-booking code for Dirty Dancing tickets, PM me!! :surfweb:
