Hi Everyone, I wasn't sure where to post this so I'll start it here. I am looking for a good romantic author/books. I have read Luanne Rice and Lavaryle Spencer. I do not enjoy Danielle Steel. Any help? Of course I have read and reread the Twlight series.
Thanks
Lisa

I like some of Nicholas Sparks books. My favorite is The Wedding. (most of his someone dies in though....so you will be sobbing). But I definitely recommend The Wedding - awesome book.

I am a big reader and love me some romance books! My favorites in no particular order:

Suzanne Brockmann---Troubleshooter series about navy seals and special ops people and finding love

Lori Foster--I like her series not much on her stand alone books

Nora Roberts---tons of books to choose from. I love her family series

Jennifer Crusie--they are fun easy reads. Love Agnes and the Hitman!

Rachel Gibson--Fun easy reads some are series about a hockey team

Janet Evanovich---series starts with One for the Money..most are funny and some fun romance

Kay Hooper--series about secret FBI department that relies on special senses to help solve crimes

I love to read and could go on and on about books and authors.

But before you read The Wedding, read The Notebook. The Wedding is actually the follow-up to The Notebook. The Notebook is my favorite book ever. It is a love story like no other. Just about everything he has ever written (and all of his older stuff) is based on someone in his family. The Notebook is based on his wife's grandparents.

‎"She was my dream. She made me who I am, and holding her in my arms was more natural to me than my own heartbeat. I think about her all the time. Even now, when I'm sitting here, I think about her. There could never have been another." - Nicholas Sparks (THE NOTEBOOK)

If you want some really good historical romances, try Julia Quinn, Julie Garwood, Celeste Bradley, and Victoria Alexander!!!

I second Nora Roberts. Love all her books!

My favorite romance was the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. Jamie and Claire..........sigh, everybody deserves a love like that!!! It can be a little dark though (violent), just so you know.

I second the Outlander series!!! Jaime is a true gentleman and Claire is NOT the typical, fragile, damsel in distress.

I'll have to look into these. Don't think I've read any of them yet.

Nora Roberts has always been my go-to romance author ever since I was 15. Lately I have really enjoyed books by Kristan Higgins and Jill Mansell.

With historical romance I usually read Joanna Lindsey, Kathleen Woodiwiss or Julie Garwood.

I like the Outlander series but it is a bit on the bloody side so I don't read them if I am in a mushy romantic mood.

OMG, the outlander series were the best read I have had in years, along with the twilight series of course.

I've seen a lot of urban fantasy, chick lit and fantasy books mentioned but very few actual romance authors. Since I'm a sucker for romance books, I have a ton of authors I read - and they have to end with Happy Ever After. My favorites:

Paranormal:

Kresley Cole is the queen of this genre! Best writer, best characters, best story ideas - I reread her books all the time.
Nalini Singh is a close second with her Psy-Changeling series.

Contemporary:

Nora Roberts (my favorite is her Wedding series)
Susan Elizabeth Phillips (also has a couple of historicals)
Judith McNaught (also some historicals)
Kathy Love (also some paranormals)
Catherine Anderson (also some historicals)

Historical:

Monica McCarty - an awesome author and she writes stories about people/couples who actually loved in historical Scotland!
Julia Quinn
Sabrina Jeffries
Lisa Kleypas (she also has a few contemporary books that are great)

Romantic Suspense:

Karen Rose
Laura Griffin
Cynthia Eden (mainly a paranormal author - and a good one - but I love her suspense trilogy!)

Futuristic:

JD Robb - but read them in order! (Note: This is Nora Roberts with a pseudonym - a great series that follows the lives of the same characters in 2060 New York).

Erotica:

Lora Leigh (although read reviews carefully - she is a wonderful author when she has a good editor)
Jaci Burton (her Play-by-Play series is a lot of fun and has some hot covers!)
Maya Banks

Amanda Quick, the same author writing under other names, Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle. I like all her stuff, the AQ is historical, JAK is modern and JC is futuristic.

Teresa Medeiros (might be Theresa, I can't remember right now.

Jude Deveraux

Kinley MacGregor

Paula Quinn

Heather Graham

Others have mentioned Johanna Lindsey and Julie Garwood, both also favorites of mine. For a paranormal feel try some Sherrilyn Kenyon.....she is AMAZING!!

Gaelen Foley! Especially her new Inferno Club series. If you like Lisa Kleypas, you will love Gaelen Foley. I have never read a book of hers that I did not love.

Here are a few authors I hadn't seen mentioned...

Gwyn Cready, she does romantic time-travel novels. I wasn't sure this was my
thing but a book of hers called Seducing Mr. Darcy is one of my favorite books ever!!! A girl basically time-travels into a book and messes up the events of Pride and Prejudice. If you love that movie you must read this book!

Susan Elizabeth Phillips, she has some amazingly romantic and really funny, light-hearted books. She is one of my favorite authors.

Susan Wiggs, such a wonderful author. I first read The Horsemaster's Daughter and got hooked then found out it was book two in a series and also read Charm School which is book 1...amazing books! You will want to read more and more!

For historical romance, I really enjoy Courtney Milan. And for contemporary urban fantasy romance, I have enjoyed Jody Wallace.
