OT ringling bros. circus

I called Ticketmaster and told them what happened at the circus and asked for my money back. I filled a complaint about it being inappropriate for children. I also filled a complaint with PETA for what they are doing to these poor cats. They said I should see a refund in 2 - 3 weeks.

I fully expect to be flamed for my opinion, but it is indeed MY opinion...

Yes, I've been bombarded with brochures by the animal rights activists while I'm holding my exhilarated daughter's hand as we eagerly walk into the circus. I am aware of what they say happens to these animals. I also see these claims disputed. I'm am neither an animal hater, nor uneducated.

That said, I have never been to the blue circus, where I gather the focus is on the animals, but I have been to the one with Bello. My family goes every year and we love it. The acts range from trapeze artists to the motorcycle cage to oodles of clowns and, of course, a few animal acts thrown in. I've never personally (meaning, in person) witnessed anything that I would deem cruel, and I'm not a cold, unfeeling person, I do have a barometer for that kind of thing.

Maybe it's the version of circus that we attend, but in the 5 years that we've been going, the acts have always been probably 80% sans animals and we've never seen anyone run over by a jeep or shot by a cannonball (although we did see a man get shot from a cannon, which was pretty cool). The circus has always been something that brings my family great joy for one day out of the year and it's something that I remember fondly from my childhood, so it is something that I feel strongly enough to defend. The detractors have managed to dissuade the OP from going to the circus and maybe the "blue version" is as horrible as everyone says, but I hate to think that anyone that has the opportunity to laugh at the clowns and see the Mongolian acrobats and the human cannonballs passes it up, because it truly is the Greatest Show on Earth to some of us.

Now, due to my nonconfrontational nature, I will forget that I posted this and will never come back to see all the flames that I received because I take it very personally and it hurts my feelings. I like to come to the Disboard because it makes me happy, but I felt compelled to follow up my earlier, rather shallow and vapid post with one of more substance because clearly there are people like myself that have gotten great joy from the circus.

Have great trips to Disney!

Ava no flaming here. I love the circus. I went to several others this summer. I would go to see the Bello one since everyone has said it is so good but this one the "blue" one was horrible. I would actually like to see more animal acts. Animals can be in the circus and treated without abuse. As I said previously I did not see any signs of abuse to the animals. I did not like what they did to the cats. The cat act was kinda out there. Cats are very hard to train and for them to get the them to perform like that these poor cats had to be really stressed out.

I'm not out to flame anyone. I respect everyone's opinions. I just wanted people to be aware of what goes on at circuses, and what goes on behind the scenes. If this gives you joy, that's ok. I have memories of doing things that are fun with my family also, and of course it's great to continue to make great memories with your family. I have a lot of them, since I'm almost 57 years old. But maybe you could start making some new memories without supporting circuses that train the animals by using horrifying methods. There are so many other places, (shows, plays, Disney) etc. where you could have fun with your family. Have a great time on your next trip to Disney!!!
