OT - Report: Verizon getting iPhone in January !!!

i am excited about getting an iphone with verizon..i currently have a blackberry and I love the blackbery messanger function..does iphone have some sort of chat function?

To further the iPhone to Verizon speculation.....my father just retired from Verizon and he said that in a company email a few weeks ago it was mentioned that the iPhone would be here in January. I hope that is correct because I really want one. But my condo, parents' house and work are all ATT dead zones so switching carriers is not an option. Then I could also finally get eTicket!

From the article "The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people", you have to love that the source is just two people, it doesn't even say where they are from. :)

I left Verizon years ago for terrible, terrible service; both customer and reception. I'll never go back.

Let the mass exodus begin, if Verizon ever actually does get the iPhone. I'll stay happily on a network that I'm quite happy with now, with far less users clogging up my band width. ;)

Of course this will happen because I got tired of the rumors and finally gave up waiting. I got a droid last week and extended my Verizon contract, so Murphy's law is bound to kick in!

As an aside, I still consider myself an Apple person, but I am lovin' my droid :)

I have an AT&T Blackberry for work, and currently have no personal cell phone. It's fine for its intended use locally and when traveling to other metro areas for work (Detroit, Houston, LA, Miami). My coverage is very good at work, and not bad at home, but it is terrible in most out-state areas (the boonies). Forget about the 3G maps they show in the ads, we're talking no EDGE, no GSM, no signal at all.

My wife's cell phone is on the verizon network. And she's almost always happy to point out that she still has service in those areas.

I would seriously consider buying an iPhone for personal use, but so long as that means another AT&T device I'll be holding off. That's what AT&T loves to hear I suppose.

Also...not all of us would leave AT&T. I have great service and a great new phone. Pretty happy where I'm at right now.

The exception here would be price.

I agree. I'll stick with AT&T. My signal at work and at home with AT&T is very good and we recently got the 3G network in our area. Now when my iPhone 4 gets delivered later this week, I will truly be in my happy place.

I would leave AT&T in a heartbeat. The service in the NYC area is bad. To many dropped called. It would be nice to go back to Verizon. But only if they get the IPhone someday :))

My verizon contract is up in Feb. If there is no iphone by then, DH and I are switching to AT&T. So verizon has 7 months left to get it together before they say good bye to me (not that they will care).

It's official !!!!!
Verizon Wireless is getting the iphone 4 on February 10th :banana:

Who's excited ??? Who's getting one ???

I've already sent my email off and will order the day it is available, which they're saying will be mid-February.

I want to port my number so haven't cancelled with AT&T yet...but I will happily be doing so asap.

I was going to cancel and get a Verizon phone, anyway, when the contract ended, but this is GREAT news for me. I love my iPhone. I just hate all the dropped calls.

Yippee. :cool1:

I would absolutely love to jump on this - but am afraid Apple will roll out the new
iPhone in April or June - and if they do will it effect Verizon's version.. Anyone hear anything?

Verizon also said that they will have a Verizon-native IPAD coming out.

Verizon Will Sell IPad That Connects to Its Network
January 11, 2011, 4:24 PM EST

By Greg Bensinger

Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Verizon Wireless will sell a version of Apple Inc.’s iPad tablet computer that can connect directly to its network, posing another challenge to AT&T Inc. as the carrier’s exclusive hold on the iPhone draws to a close.

Verizon will get an embedded chip in the iPad for use on its network, Francis Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon Communications Inc., the parent of the wireless unit, said today in an interview in New York. IPad users currently need an extra device to connect to Verizon’s network. Shammo declined to say when the change may happen.

Verizon Wireless, the biggest U.S. mobile-phone carrier, began selling the iPad in its stores in a package with its credit card-sized Wi-Fi device in October for $629.99 to $829.99. Apple, which introduced the iPad in April, offers versions of the tablet that connect directly to AT&T’s network.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, sold about 7.5 million iPads through September and, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., may sell more than 37 million of the devices this year.

Verizon Wireless, based in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, said today it will begin selling the iPhone on its network to all customers on Feb. 10. AT&T, based in Dallas, had been the exclusive carrier of the smartphone since 2007.

Verizon Communications, which co-owns the wireless unit with Vodafone Group Plc, fell 56 cents to $35.36 at 4 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. AT&T declined 43 cents to $27.91. Verizon has lost 1.2 percent this year and AT&T has declined 5 percent.

ME!!!:cool1::cool1:

I am so excited. I was not willing to switch to ATT since i have horrible coverage in my area. I will order the 1st day!

iPhone updates are traditionally in June. Not sure what to think on what Verizon will get in June, I am not certain Apple even knows yet. Officially, no one is talking about when Verizon will get an upgrade, if it will be the same yearly cycle starting in June. Worst comes to worst you could wait till June and see.

I don't think I can make it until June , but I'm going to wait until the first batch of people get their phones to see if there are any major problems or flaws like there were when AT&T released their latest iphone last summer.
