I was able to get my first mani-pedi in about 18 months and I am not sure I tipped enough. My esthetician is now in her own independent location, having moved twice since my last appointment. She does a really good, careful job on my hands and feet. One of her regular pedicures takes about an hour and a quarter, so she sees a lot fewer people than the norm in many nail salons. Her prices have significantly increased since my last appointment. How much should I tip?

when I finally got my hair cut I gave her what I would have tipped her for all the missed appointments in cash as soon as I sat down and told her to just stick it in her pocket. I then doubled what I normally give her once she was finished chopping off about 5 inches of very thick curly hair!

I find I am over tipping what I would have normally done. Like Donald said, I try to play catch up for the appointments I didn't get to because of Covid.

So those of you I have met, and for those who havent. I am normally bald and clean shaven for the past 30 years. And been doing myself. During this time to the hate and pain of my wife, I have let it all grow. So much that the ring around my head I could do a man bun with . and my beard was down about 6 inches long.
So I always told her, I am waiting till phase3 and then I will go and have a hot shave and hair cut. Support local business and since I have never had a hot shave before.
SO total was $80, then I tipped 60 cash to her. Not too keen on the hot shave,,,will be back to doing it myself. Not the cost, but no wow factor.

Always err on the side of generosity but doesn't etiquette dictate that no tip be offered to the owner/proprietor of a salon?

I always tip including when I go to a salon where the owner is my hairdresser. Tip the same as I would any other person. It's never crossed my mind to do it differently and will continue as I have in the past.

I always wonder about this too. When I was in my 20’s the owner was my hair dresser. On my first visit he came out and told me- you don’t tip the owner.
Fast forward a few years :rolleyes1 and both my hairdresser and nail person are the owners and I never know what to do.
You are right. Etiquette does say you don’t tip owner.

I wish we should just reset and put tip prices in the prices!!! It's annoying to figure out who to tip and who not to, how much, etc. It would be nice to get away from a tipping society but until they do, I always try to tip well!

I just got my haircut today and I didn't tip. I hated to do it but her prices went up so much I didn't have enough cash to tip. I pay her cash so she doesn't have to charge me any tax. I told her I'd get her next time. She is the owner if that makes a difference.

My hairdresser used to tell me that I didn't have to tip him but I always did and if the other person washed my hair I would leave money for him to give to her. Sadly they closed the shop last year when he contracted COVID so I now go to the person who used to work at his salon. I haven't been since November but I really need to go so I guess I will go next week before I head to the cottage for 2 weeks. She only takes cash so I will make sure to have lots since I don't know if her price has gone up since last year.
