If your daughters are not included then you have no choice to stay home, and I would tell DH that unless MIL wants to pay for the babysitter she should zip it.
Get a gift card in an amount you can afford to where she is registerd or to a Home Depot or somewhere like that esp if she is getting a new house or something.
Registries are getting out of hand these days JMHO! There is never anything reasonably priced on them anymore.
