OT Question

Does the DISBOARDS have any say in the pop up ads that appear above and below the threads. Some of them are not what I would consider family friendly. I'm the only person that uses this computer and I know exactly what type of content has and has never been viewed so there's definitely no reason on my end.

I think they are often dictated by the content of the page/thread you're looking at. FWIW I don't see any of them thanks to Ad-Block+.

Most of the ads you see are generated by your cache of visited sites. Like mine right now shows a pop up ad for Legend of the Hidden Temple shirts because I looked at them a few weeks ago.

Unless a site has specific ads in place so it's the same ad every time for the forum to make money, then the forum has no control over the content and is pretty much based on the users personal sites

Interesting. My computer is from my job and no one else uses it and I have never, ever viewed anything on it even remotely questionable. I find it quite comical. They also like to show me car ads most of the time here and I don't even drive. I've never looked at car sites, car rentals, etc.. Oh well, I will continue to ignore them.

Mine definitely show things I have looked at myself, such as Ebay.

Maybe someone had that computer before you at work and it still has cookies from then? You could clear your cookies and see how it looks then

But seriously, get AdBlock Plus. I don't know how people can stand to use the Internet without it. Every time I use a browser without it I think the Internet has gone insane. ABP does not get rid of all ads, but at least you will see only a rage-inducing amount instead of a seizure-inducing amount.

I am currently pregnant and every ad is baby related. I have never seen one for "special visitors" or tires so OP you really have a cookie problem (try clearing the cache). I think I am the only person who likes the ads. As I said I am researching all sorts of baby related stuff and the ads give me some sites I hadn't come across yet. Its handy. I guess I'm an advertising sucker.

I agree that ads are things I've looked up. Saw some post about a Tervis this morning. Googled to see what it was. Now, there is a Tervis Ad at the bottom of the page along with Em makeup, which I have purchased things from. Someone may have looked up those things to mess with you when you've taken a break. I could see a comical co-worker enjoying that.

I like the ads too. They are almost always something I am interested in. Sometimes they alert me to promos, which entice me to buy if I passed when I originally looked.
