I have bought stock twice from oneshare.com and I've been pleased with the way they turned out. I've been thinking about buying the Dreamworks stock, but I just read they were being bought out by Paramount pictures. The stock is pretty and with a picture of shrek on it, my kids will love it. Does anyone know what will happen to the value of the stock if the company has been purchased? Will it be worthless after Paramount takes over? Will it be worth anything? I don't want to spend almost $100 for a pretty picture, i'd rather get them stock that will have some value when they're adults. I've already bought a share of Disney for one of my kids, i'm looking for a different one.

thanks

Oneshare stocks are not investments, they were never meant to be. You are paying most of that $ for the pretty picture. One share of Disney stock, for example, is worth $25. Brokerage firms do not like to handle trades that small so it would be hard to sell it even if you wanted to.

I purchased a share of stock for my nephew about 1 1/2 years ago from oneshare.com. I know they're not meant to be for investments, but for some companies, in order to join their Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP) you must own at least one share of their stock. Going through a broker to do this is not easy or cheap. So when I got the stock certificate, I sent it in to the DRIP plan administrator and enrolled my nephew. So he now has something growing for his future, and th cost wasn't too prohibitive.

A question I have is for the stocks that come in a frame. Can you take the certificate out of the frame, just like you would a photo, or is it matted to somethiing?

I've bought framed shares from them, and you can't take the stock out unless you rip open the back of the frame. It's covered with brown paper on the back, no access to the stock.

I'm still curious if anyone knows what will happen to the value of a stock that has been bought out by another company...maybe someone has had this happen in their portfolio?

I'm not expecting this one share to make anyone rich...it's just the principle of the matter, I want it to be worth SOMETHING when the kids are older, even just a few dollars.
