We are going to be in Quebec city at the beginning of June. We are staying at the mannoir victoria in old quebec city. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for the area. from counter service to signature levels. TIA

Definitely go to Aux Anciennes Canadiens inside the walled city -- wonderful Quebecois fare.

Ask the hotel staff where the closest Ashton's is located.
It's not haute cuisine but it is authentic.

Thanks. I am making a list.

DH is going to do a Poutine tour. We did one in Montreal last winter. The best poutine was in a yucky old diner. I don't mind the first or second round of poutine but it fizzles after that.

There's L'Entrecote St-Jean inside the walls of the Old City on St-Jean street. Good steak & fries with a great salad, steaks are 5, 7, or 9 oz. Prices are reasonable (24-30$, including desert) and service is personable.

A place to avoid: Aux Vieux-Canons, on Grande-Allée. Food is mediocre at best, service the same, only good thing is the great terrace! Tourist trap!

There's also Gambrinus, on street du Fort, in front of Chateau Frontenac. The food is great, surprising and stylish, French/Italian (not typical pasta), but the prices are a bit high (30-35$). Try to go for lunch on a week-day, for 10-15$ you get a complete meal and can sample the creative dishes. For dinner in the week-end, reservations are preferable.

They all look so good! Luckily we have 3 full days in Quebec City and we are going to spend one day in Montreal for the Formula One Race ( not quite my cup of tea but I'll make the best of it!). Hopefully we will be able to get to all the restaurants we want to try in between touring the sights!

We go to Québec every summer and we always stop to eat at the St-Hubert Rotisserrie restaurants. It's one of my favorite restaurants. We don't have any here in the U.S.
