OT: pre-school or Kindergarten? Can't decide.

Not sure if you mentioned doing this, but have you seriously sat down with his PK teacher in this matter? We have been on the fence about my DS with this for a while now. He will be 5 end of May and we have an Oct 1 cutoff. We have done the screening and he passed with flying colors. Academically he is a bit ahead of his peers, but socially he is a bit behind. After meeting with his teacher (today actually) we have decided to hold him back. Let him catch up socially.
Once in school, the social aspect carries on with a child more than the academic. If they have the smarts, but cannot fully function socially through the day, they will have a tough time.
I think the decision is best made by the parents and PK teacher.

We waited to put our DS in Kindergarten. His birthday is in July. It was the best decision we made for him. :thumbsup2 He was always acedemically smart and very mature for his age. I really had no real reasons to hold him back. I just feel very strongly that extra year did wonders for his confidence.. Not to mention I was thinking long term as well. He will be 19 when he goes to collage. THAT is when I hope his maturity really stand out... :rotfl::rotfl: I was the youngest out of my friends (Aug birthday) and I HATED IT.. Seriously.. I really felt like I was being left behind when my friends started driving before me, going out to clubs before me and YES drinking before me. Regardless if you agree with the behavior being left out SUCKS..

I just read a book entitled Boys Adrift. Dr. Sax is the name of the author. He devotes an entire chapter to the issue of boys, school, and the age at which we expect them to sit quietly and "learn" in this country. It's a very interesting read all-around, but you might check it out in light of your question. Good luck! :)

I read a similar book by another author who himself struggled in school. It's very interesting.
