So I know I will never be as cool as Don and I cannot guarantee constant Facebook updates but next Wednesday I am having my gallblader removed. I know this is nothing major and they do them all the time but any prayers or pixie dust you can spare are appericated. Also have you had your Gallbladder out? How easy/hard was your recovery? What limitations did your Doctor give you and how quick were you back to work? I know everyone is different but I would love to hear how things went for others.. good and bad

So, we can no longer say, "Oh, the GALL of that woman!"???

No stories, but hugs and happy thoughts your way!

:grouphug: Prayers and pd

I had my gallbladder taken out (12 years ago next week). I'm not sure if you remember watching Chicago Hope tv show, but the E.R. that diagnosed my problem was the sister of one the actress that was one of the major characters. It was weird seeing this doctor because she looked so much like her sis. Well, I was referred to a great surgeon and had a lap. (a bit modified since my 2 biggest stones were golf ball size) and stayed overnight. In my case, I had to eat extreme low fat, flat sodas, water, and no spices from diagnosis to surgery. After my surgery, I still ate lower fats for awhile until my body adjusted (the body will let you know in one or another that you had too much). I took off maybe 4 days from work and had light lifting for a short time. I found it easier to have a pillow nearby at home in the first week to help support the stomach muscles when getting up from the chair and bed. I worked retail at that time and was able to do most of my job duties within a week or 2.

It was no fun not eating my birthday cake or eat much of anything at one of NC B's brother's engagement party.

Tara-

I have had mine out, nearly 17 years ago. They did it via lapro. and it took about a week to recover.

It was well worth it as the pain was VERY yuckie!! (to coin a phrase)

Prayers your way .. I had mine taken out on an emergency basis about 6 years ago. On the op table @ 10pm and home by 11am .There was about a week of rest and a longer food intake adjustment. I eat everything now ... though some stuff doesnt like me ..
pm me if you have any other questions ..

I had my gall bladder out seven years ago and had a similar experience to others who have posted. Even though it is done laparascopically for most, you must remember that you lose an organ and although physically it appears to be several small incisions, there is a lot of adjustment going on inside of you! Do exactly as the nurses advise and rest as much as possible because that is when the body heals. I was off work about two weeks afterwards and found the first week back to work exhausting. It was well worth having it done as the pain prior to surgery was terrible. I wish you a very speedy recovery.

I visit a naturopath regularly these days and would suggest that taking some supplements ahead of time could help with your recovery. I took an immune booster, Vitamin E and a few other specialized things for a surgery last year and found I recovered a bit ahead of schedule. I was off work for almost six weeks last year but it could have been worse. We had a trip to Disney planned for two weeks after I returned to work so I certainly had a great incentive to get better!

Hi~

I actually had my gall bladder out 8 days ago. I had a severe gall bladder attack on a Wednesday night, the diagnosed the problem on Thursday and it was taken out the following Tuesday. They waited to take it out b/c it was so inflammed that they wanted to give it a few days to simmer down. I pretty much ate nothing for those few days b/c I was SO scared that I was going to have another attack. Anyway, here I am 8 days later and feeling great!
The first 4 days weren't great- very sore and tired but I felt much better by the 5th day. I'm still pretty tired at night but that's about it.
I am still eating pretty low fat but am introducing regular foods back into my diet. My doc told me that it's trial and error for most people.
I went back to work (I work at a desk) 6 days after surgery with no problems.

Good luck! I feel SO much better with it gone!

Prayers and pixie dust coming your way. :goodvibes

I am so sorry this is happening. I am just sending hugs and pixie dust for a quick recovery.

I was thrilled to get rid of mine. I had horrible pain from the stones. I felt TONS better after waking up from the procedure. I hadn't been able to eat much for weeks before, but I had mom's meatloaf for dinner in bed that night. I had no issues with food after. I had very little pain, Advil worked fine. I was tired and a bit sore, so I rested, slept off and on and watched movies the next 2 days after. On the 3rd day, I was up and around pretty good, but stayed home, took it slow and easy. By the 4th day I really felt fine, wouldn't have done anything very physical, but felt good. The only thing that was really uncomfortable was the ride home, you really can't sit fully up, have the person who is taking you recline the seat back as far as it will go.

I'll be thinking of you and sending prayers!

Hugs and thoughts and prayer being sent:grouphug:

I had emergency surgery last year to remove my gallbalader (removed at midnight and home by 1pm the next day). I felt so much better as soon as I awoke but it took me about a 4 days to be back to myself due the fact my was impacting my liver. The only thing that will be a bit of a pain is chasing after a little one. I was not allowed to pick up anything over 15-20 pounds until after my follow up visit. In the end, I felt like a brand new person after I had it removed.

So you aren't going to post photos of the scars?

If you followed along I thought the recovery and surgery itself was a piece of cake. Actually the worst was the shoulder pain they warned me about from the gas they used to "inflate you" settling into my shoulders. I was in the hospital at 1pm and on my couch by 7pm. I was on pain pills for a few days, but to me they were worse than the pain itself, so I tried to get off them quickly.
