I think I saw this someplace a while ago, but can't find it.

For those of you with boys, how old were they when they were completely potty trained??

TIA

My son was 2.5 when he was completely potty Trained BUT I think most boys are closer to 3 when they are fully trained

My son is 3.5 and still isn't completely trained. He just gets so wrapped in playing and such that if we don't remind him, he won't tell us he has to go. I'm hoping to have him completely trained in another month or so.

My son was 3 and 4 months.
He has a Feb. birthday & when our neighborhood pool opened on Memorial Day weekend I told him that the only way he'd get to swim in the big pool was if he was potty trained....otherwise he'd have to swim in the baby pool.

**Several friends & I were all potty-training our kids at the same time.
We formed a "Potty-training support group"....no kidding.

We started my son when he was 20 months and he was finished by his second birthday. Same with my dd3. I've always heard that boys were harder than girls but this was not my experience -- my ds was more difficult than dd or maybe it was because I used pull-ups instead of underwear longer with him. I suggest you go straight to underwear/training pants -- pull-ups are just glorified diapers. Once we ditched those and went to underwear, both were trained in no time. Children do not like urine (or worse) running down their legs and getting on their clothing.

DS was completly trained by his second BD, I started two weeks before. I too went straight to regular underwear, not even the thick training kind but bought that ones he wanted and that was great motivation. Most children are a little older but do not let everyone convince you that boys are so hard and must be older. SOME boys are harder but sometimes it's the girls that are harder.
Yes the child has to be physically ready but I see many times it is the parent that is not 100% ready to make that commitment and that sends mixed messages to the child. it is fine to start early and just as fine to wait till 2 1/2 or so but I think making that decission makes it easier in everyone.

Good luck!!!1

My son was completely diaper free by just about 2 1/2.
I went right to putting him in big kid underwear and if and when he had an accident, it was far more uncomfortable for him than a wet diaper.
We reminded him constantly and am embarassed to say that we made going potty somewhat of a game.
Learning from friends, I put cheerios, glitter, etc.. in the potty to be used as his "target!!"

I know how hard this time is and it will get easier.
Please ask if you have any other questions.
Good luck!

I have two sons. One 7 and one 4.5. My oldest started training at about 20 months and wasn't completely trained until about 2 3/4 years and even then he tended to have night time accidents until almost 6. :sad2: My youngest got a "big boy potty seat" for his second birthday. He simply looked at it and said, "I go pee there?" Yup, that simple! I couldn't believe it. My youngest is a twin, B/G, his sister got a potty seat also. She was almost 2.5 before she'd use it. It really depends on the child. I will say, my twins, still have a night time accident about once or twice a month. Usually, when they are very tired.

We started potty training my ds at 16 mos. because he showed an interest:confused3 I know who does that! But he would only do a poop in the potty (which was A-OK by me)..and by for his 1st Disney trip(23mos) it was pull-ups all the way(this was my crutch). Then for his 2nd b-day, he was trained. No night time issues or anything by 25 mos. I am a sahm, and was really on it.

Probably a stupid question but how exactly did you train your boys. I am a new mommy to a 3 yo who isnt trained and I am lost at what to do. We have the seat that attaches to the toilet and a potty chair. He will sometimes use the toilet but most of the time he will go in his pants. He is in underwear except for at night and if we have to go somewhere(We rarely leave the house these days). He will go in his pants and change himself, it doesnt really phase him. Now if he poops he will ask for my help changing but again he doesnt really care. We bought him several different kinds of big boy underwear, none are training pants. Any suggestions?

My son was 3 1/2; most of my friends' trained right near their 3rd birthday.

My DS was completely trained by 2. Could have been a bit earlier but I was taking care of my Mom with a terminal illness and couldn't stay on it as well as with my DD. I also agree with the Pull ups I only used those when we had to go somewhere like the Hospital with my Mom. My DD was done by 19 mos, my nephew was the same.

Watch your son when he starts looking like he has to go take him to the potty, talk to him constantly about going and reminding him he is to use the potty now and that is what is expected, and make sure the potty is easy and quick to get to. Keep the clothes simple at first.

Thank you all for your great input.

I have been using pull-ups, and I think maybe that was a mistake for me to do, they do seem like glorified diapers.

My son was 3 & 3 months old. He basically trained himself. It was that way with my DD also. We had potty seats with both of them and made a big deal about it when they went potty, but I did not pressure either of them. It worked great! I am so glad that I did not stress out about it. He is 3 & 1/2 now and still wears a pull up at night, but rarely has an accident.

mine were both 2.5 yo. It took about 2 weeks from beginning to end. It was fairly easy once I showed them I was taking away their diapers and they relized that they had to use underpants.

My son was about 3.5. He ,oved money (still does as a matter of fact). Every time he went on the potty he got a quarter in a jar and every time he went in his pants we took a quarter out of the jar. He was completely trained in about 2 weeks.

My son wasn't trained until he was about 3 1/2....little sister came then and that gave him motivation to not be like a baby! He is on the small side, and I think that caused him to have to wear a goodnight diaper to bed until he was5 1/2. My daughter, however was completely trained before 2 (and never wet the bed.) :thumbsup2

My ds started going every am & every bed time (a few times at bed time) when he was around 18 mo old.

Guess what he gave that up when he got sick at around 2.

So then last summer I trained him just before he was 3.

He still wets him self (he is about 3 yrs, 4 mo right now) every so often but I don't remind him to pee. He also isn't always right on the toilet with #2.

We still put him in a pull up at night for our sanity.

My ds9 was about 2 1/2 and my ds3 has been good for a few months now. Now my dd2 has been going on her own since about 18 months.. She is good for the day but still has to wear something at night. I am so glad to read there are kids out there like mine.. I so hate to hear about the ones that were potty trained by a year old. I so can't see how this is even possible. For all those still working on it like us GOOD LUCK!

I think every kid is different and goes at their own pace. The most important things I learned about potty training are you must wait until the child is physically ready and pull-ups are for Mommy!

My oldest ds was all set at 3 1/2 and it seemed like it took forever. We used a seat that fit on the toilet -- I didn't want to use a potty chair, because I only wanted to show him where to go once..and I didn't want to clean it or have it carried around. I also gave incentives -- m&ms for #1 and a dum dum lollipop for #2. I also set the timer for every 20 min or so to go potty. I think what really helped my son was going to pre-school 3 mornings a week and see that everyone else was potty trained while he had pull ups on and a spare in his back pack. I was also using pull ups forever, but realized they were more for me than him. Once you go to underwear, children seem to immediately understand cause and effect!

As a bonus, my other ds, who was 2 1/2, just watched big brother and basically trained himself, so I got a 2 for 1.
