OT: Paris on a Sunday

Yes you will find Paris on a Sunday is like most normal days except perhaps for some of the very expensive shops

Hello! Yes I have, I am pretty sure everything was open - I can't remember anything being closed and we went to see the sites. I would double check on the internet if there is anything you really want to do- as some places may have shorter days on a Sunday.

Hi all,

Has anyone been to Paris on a Sunday from the Disney area? Is everything open etc? :)

Yes, it's all open as far as I remember...

I've done it where I've trekked in to the centre of Paris, visited the Quaker Meeting in the city (an amazing experience because it felt more like rural france than the busy city you're actually in). After Meeting, I've headed off and visited most of the sites I've been interested in (Eiffel tower, shops, Notre Dame, Pompidou centre) and had no problems with any of them :thumbsup2

I think some of the museums and things are often free on a Sunday or used to be. I remember when i worked in Paris spending most Sunday afternoons in the museums/galleries but thats a long time ago

I thought I'd heard that this was the first sunday of the month.

Sites are open, but not all shops. Some grocery stores will open for a few hours on a Sunday morning; many shops in the tourist areas and Champs-Elysées etc are often open, as are some market areas. Do not expect the large department stores to be open except for some Sundays leading up to the Christmas season. Museums and galleries are open and busy; there is a charge for most except on certain days.

Don't go expecting it to be a regular shopping day however.

Also know that some transit lines will have a reduced schedule.

last time we went on a Sunday was July 07 - it also happened to be the day the Tour de France ended in Paris. To say it was busy was putting it mildly :rotfl:

Free Sundays, as well Mondays at those which are open on a Monday, tend to be extremely busy; Sundays are busy in general at the most popular galleries and museums.

I avoid free Sundays for exactly that reason.

it is busy on the free sundays- but on june 1st dd and i went to the louvre and we got there fairly early. we had to wait a few minutes but it wasn't much worse than when we went on the last sunday of august. inside, it was about equally busy.
it was tough to get close to the mona lisa but there is soooo much to see and much of it was quiet.
also, more interesting galleries were open than when we paid.
it was definitely getting busy mid-afternoon though. maybe there is less incentive to get a 'full' day?
and of course august is a busy month.

remember loads of museums are closed on a tuesday though.
