Any suggestions on a good book to read to my DD's second grade class? The book should take about 10-15minutes to read out loud. I'm looking for one that is a bit silly....I don't mind looking ridiculous while I'm reading.:goodvibes

THANKS!

A couple of titles:

Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin. Pretty much what it sounds like. (She also wrote DofA Spider and Fly, but the worm one is my 7 year old's favorite.)

Any of the Skippyjon Jones books by Judy Schachner. They are about a siamese cat who thinks that he's a chihuahua. There are at least 4 books in that series....funny, cute.

Cinder-Eyed Cats
Moostache
Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type (or any in this series...they are funny)
The Scrambled States of America

All of these could be read in 10-15 minutes :)

This would be something that would take more than 10 minutes, but maybe the teacher would be willing to continue it another day?? Any of the Ramona Quimby books.

There is one called Bendamolina or The Cat with the Pot on her Head. HILAROUS! And it shows what happens and how messages get all mixed up when you dont listen carefully!

I also love any of the Robert Munsch books! I don't know if they are long enough for you, but they always get a laugh. :thumbsup2
Have fun!!

I used to tutor 1st graders in reading and every year I would read a book called "Oliver and the Monsters" to my class. They always loved it.

Most of the pp suggestions are excellent choices. I would vote for any of them. I would also suggest any of the "Black Lagoon" series or "Dear Mrs. LaRue" as well.

Have fun and thank you for volunteering and promoting literacy!!!

My girls are now 14 & 16 but a few books that they really enjoyed were Hooway for Wodney Wat and Officer Buckle & Gloria. I don't recall who the authors are.

Christina Katerina and the Box. The girl in the book gets a big refrigerator box to play in and it goes through all her adventures with the box. I love this book! I had to special order it for my daughter when I wanted to buy it for christmas last year, though. I don't know about availability in your area. There's also the old standby of Green Eggs and Ham. This happens to be my dd5's favorite book and she almost has it memorized.

I like . " I'm gonna like me" by Jamie Lee Curtis.Very good about self esteem and cute too

DH was the mystery reader for DS7's class and read Diary of a Worm. He wore the red baseball camp and brought gummy worms for a snack. He was a big hit.

I second Officer Buckle and Gloria. I read that to DDs 2nd grade class last year and they really liked it.

I read my daughter's class Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. They love it and joined in on the chanting. It was great.

How about "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!"?

If you had more time, I would recommend "Roscoe Riley Rules Never Glue Your Friends to Chairs". I don't know who laughed hardest on this one...DH, DS 6, or me.

This is what I was going to suggest! There are plenty of opportunities for looking ridiculous if you're willing to do an accent. :lmao:
