I need help deciding on a non-Disney vacation for our one year anniversary in December. The past 2 years we have gone to Jamaica and while we love it, we are thinking we would like to try something different this year. We are considering a cruise (neither of us have ever been on one) or a different island. If we do an island, we are looking for one where it is safe to leave your resort but at the same time, not so touristy (?) that there is no island culture left. It will be just DH and I and we will probably stay about a week. Any suggestions?

I personally love to cruise...I have been on 7 and when we went on one for our Honeymoon it was DH's first. Since then he has been on 3 I think. Anyway, I love to go on cruises and can't wait for the next one.

As for non-touristy stops, I think that most of those islands are. They rely on the boats for their lively-hood. Sometimes if you go further in on the island, but sometimes, you really don't want to do that either.

I will tell you from all of the cruises that I have been on...Disney was the best by far. I don't just say that because I am a Disney person either. My DH said that too and altough I have been turning him for the last 10 years, he is not as crazy as I am.

I had such a wonderful time on the ship and they have everything laid out and designed so well. Then you have the private island, Castaway Cay, which is FANTASTIC! They have an adult only area of the island, and it is so wonderful and secluded. They only downfall...they need at least 2 days at this island!

Good luck with whatever you do and have fun!

:thumbsup2 We are also crazy about cruising. So far, we have only been on 3 (no Disney cruises), but we LOVE them. we have done the Western Caribbean and the islands seem unspoiled by tourists. We have been to Grand Cayman (okay, that one is pretty touristy), Isla Roatan (Hondorous), Belize(cave tubing and a walk in the rainforest), Cozumel (went to a nature park, not into the city), Calica(another nature park with an underground river swim). The scenery is just beautiful and a whole other world. Then at night on the ship there is entertainment, gambling, drinks, dinner. It is great for us.

We are thinking of making our next non-disney trip (after Ireland/Scotland) to the Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos.........looks really nice and safe :) You could also do one of the Sandals resorts b/c they are adults only....they're all over aren't they??

A nice compromise between a cruise and not-so-touristy places...a Windjammer cruise. They are small enough to get into smaller ports of call that the larger cruise ships can't fit into, so the ports are not over-run with people. We loved it!
