My daughter needs braces and I went to see an Orthodontist. He quoted me $5800 (luckily we have insurance) for a 16 month treatment.

What are fees these days? I want to make sure I am not paying for his nice office.

Any recommendations for orthodontists in the Missisauga/Brampton area?

We had the same quote ($5800.00) for my daughters teeth:scared1: . Her's included the appliance that she wears after the braces. Our insurance only covers $2500.00 (lifetime) for orthodontist. We were able to do a payment plan for the rest over 24 months.

That is pretty standard! I now am on my 4th (and last) child in braces and we do not have insurance.

But they do offer 10% off for payment in full so that helps.

I can now go on an extra vacation every year with the money that I do not have to give to the dentist!

We are the same here in NB. $5800 for the works. DH plan only covers $2000. The rest is out of pocket.

I just paid my last installment in the 24 month payment plan. Our total was $7000, not including retainer/appliances needed after braces removed, also doesn't cover the cost of surgery if needed. Mind you, my son has a difficult case (ie, crowding, small jaw, missing adult teeth). We are two years into the treatment with about another two years to go. When we got the quote, I started to cry, my husband was prepared and figured that would be the price. :scared1:
I would however, get a second opinion. We went with the orthodontist my dentist recommended, when we really should have looked around. We live in a small town where you will have to travel elsewhere.

Good luck with your search!

I'll let you know when we have the pricing given to us - my 14yo is going on Jan 29th for his consultation so I guess we'll see how much we're in for. Thank goodness dh has a great dental plan through work!!

Those figures sound about right.

We have 2 kids in braces right now. One is costing 6200.00 and the other is 6400.00. Insurance covers part of it and the rest we claim on income tax.

Our orthodontist is in Peterborough Ontario
My daughter got top braces first....3300.00 and now is getting the bottom on this month...2600.00. This total 5900 includes all appt's and her retainers afterwards. We are only covered for a lifetime of 1500.00 and that was used up a couple years ago when she got an appliance for the roof of her mouth to widen it, and then the surgery was also on top to get an eye tooth out of the roof of her mouth and then brought (with wire) through to the correct space...that took 6 months. and that was another 850.00.

She should get hers all done in time for my son to start his!!
wow......

Would you mind sharing your orthros name in Peterborough (we live about 20 min from Peterborough)?
Also, we have no coverage for braces through DHs work. Does anyone know of a plan you can purchase (something like blue cross but for braces) that would cover a portion of the costs?

How did the surgery go? Both my son's eye teeth are having problems coming down, and may need the surgery to bring them thru. One tooth appears to be straightening out somewhat but the other is sideways in his gums. Was it very painful? Just wanting to know what to expect.
