Patsy can you not give her powered milk untill you get to the hotel? Or will she react to that?

Just make sure you pack it in the middle of the case (including how deep in the case it is and not just how far left/right and up/down), with clothes on all 6 sides (hope that makes sense) and you should be fine. Also - make sure anything heavy has clothes between it and the milk to try to make sure it can't be squashed.

I've bought back glass bottles in cases before doing pretty much this and have not had a problem.

Oh dear Nikki
I assume you are not working tonight.Hope you have a really good sleep

No i'm off till Wednesday. Although they are stitching me up with my shifts. I aslo like how they haven't got back to my query of the 3 days followed immediately by 3 nights with no rest day, which makes me wonder that they know they are in the wrong:mad:

Thanks guys :thumbsup2

Emma - she can't have powdered as it's still cows milk based. I did email the DLH to ask if they had or could get rice milk (ages ago now) and they said no, the other option they offered was soya milk but she's allergic to that too!!

UKStitch - I know that's what I'm going to have to do I guess and just really hope for the best! The airport woman said put one in two cases so if one bursts we have another - good thinking for actually ensuring we have some but, then we have a suitcase full of milked up clothes and nowhere to sort it out i.e. washing machine or anything!!! :headache:

I was thinking of putting it in a tupperware/sandwich type box and sellotaping it up and then sticking it in sealable bags, again taped and then finally putting it all in a carrier bag?? Do you think that will work - might take me the whole holiday to get into it mind you :lmao:

I really can't believe that we are talking about a 4 year old here and we have a Consultant's note and they still won't budge :confused3 I know it's security but surely it's a bit OTT??

I would guess that if you can get a hard plastic tupperware box large enough then that should be fine. What you could also try is if the milk is smaller than the box, then pad it with something soft e.g. screwed up kitchen roll to stop it moving about. You shouldn't nee all the sellotape and sealable bags if you do that :thumbsup2

Is it not possible that she can go without milk for a few days and drink juice or water instead? DD refuses to drink the milk in france, which is a good thing.

I was going to suggest putting it in a tupperware box as well and in a carrier bag then as Rob said in the middle of your case.

If the worst comes to the worst and it bursts over your clothes there is a laundry at Cheyenne for guests use

Aw Sonya, I have probs with Clarks for DD1 so end up having to get Spanish or German shoes - as you can imagine not cheap!!! Her school shoes cost the earth and I just know she'll wreck them in half a day! :scared1: I don't understand it but she has fairly wide feet but a shallow instep so 'mary jane' type shoes never seem to fit unless they are european shoes

I wish I could just go to NEXT or somewhere and buy them both shoes!! :rolleyes1

Have a bit of a dilemma - rang the airline tonight and then the airport about taking a carton of rice milk on the plane for DD1 (she is allergic to cows and soya milk). I really don't want to take it in the hold (it's a cardboard 1L carton) as I can just imagine what will happen to it - the cardboard is never v good on them. Her consultant wrote a doctor's note to the effect of her prob with a request that we take it as hand luggage. But the airport have said that it will have to go in the hold! :scared1: Or alternatively, split it into 100ml bottles and put in clear bags - but once it's opened it has to be refridgerated!!

So, what would you do? Try and wrap it well and hope that it doesn't burst in the hold? Or not bother - prob not an option really.... :(

Anyone taken anything like this before - how did you pack it?

i cant believe they cant accomodate you with a medical request. can you speak to anyone higher up? or send a complaint?

if nobody is willing to help you i would try find something hard plastic that i could put it into. does it come in smaller bottle that you could fit into like a lunch box or something

Awww - Nikki - bless you, I really hope you are outta that place soon.

Thanks, I love the job just not the station. Although the past few nights I have worked with a great guy & I got to see some of the people last night who I worked with when I was at the station I want to go back to. It was great as they are more friendlier then the ones i'm currently with.

Thanks guys.

I know Sonya - I think it's off as well esp when we are talking about a child who needs calcium at her age (fortunately she has a supplement too) but the lady tonight said, "we are not saying you can't take it, just not in your hand luggage"!!!

Unfortunately the 'milk' with added calcium doesn't come in smaller packs. The one without does - like a kid's carton drink but it's not much use to us without calcium in it. You know, I'm starting to think I might not bother and she can just have toast for breakfast and fruit etc.... Think I'll speak to DH and my Mum and see what they say. She can have eggs too and they are always at breakfast. Just means she can't have cereal and she loves her cereal!! It's going to be totally hit and miss with what she can eat anyway throughout the whole stay but I'm going to try and not stress about it and just enjoy our hol!

Last year we didn't have an issue as she had soya milk provided by the hotel but sadly she's developed an allergy to that - and it's much worse than her allergy to milk

Small World - it's good to know about the laundry - think I'd have to remortgage to use the laundry service at DLH (actually, can't recall even seeing one?).....

There is a laundry service at DLH but as you say a 2nd mortgage would be needed

i find it very strange. i would definately complain about that. and i am not a complainer. you have a child with an allergy and a medical note. not wanting to put milk in your luggage is completely understandable. she may as well be saying you cant take it

Unfortunately its not the airlines who set this rule its the airport security. Many airlines have been trying to get the government to relax the rule as they say it goes too far

I know Sonya but I don't think I have the energy :lmao: I put a complaint in about the issue I had with Expedia and Nectar and my flight costs etc and I still haven't heard from them - that was end June, well had one 'holding' letter dated 7th July :headache: I just can't be bothered with complaining as I feel like you never get anywhere anyway - believe me, I've done it in the past but just face doing it anymore

I am going to have to chase them up as it's just not acceptable but am going to wait until after my trip and I get DD1 to school - there is just no time in the days during the school holidays with the two kids

yeah thats a pain. thats probably why i dont complain much i am too lazy lol
