My wife and I are going to be up in the Washington DC area next month and want to visit the Natural Museum of American History [on the Mall] which was closed last year when we were there.

We are driving. I'd like to find a low to mid priced hotel that we could stay at on a Saturday night, and then take an inexpensive taxi ride to a Metro stop on Sunday morning. We'd then use the Metro to get to the museum and back. I'd prefer to use Metro and not drive into the city.

Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance !!

So, would you prefer staying in MD or VA since you're willing to take a taxi to the metro? If that's the case, you can stay in a suburb that is close to a metro stop. I'm sure that is cheaper than DC.

We will be visting my wifes daughter in North Beach, MD which is east of DC. A nice place between there and DC [either in VA or MD] would be great.

Okay, so that is in Calvert County (Southern-ish Maryland) down Rt. 4.

If you come up Rt. 4 and find a hotel that is a short taxi ride to the Metro, then I'm afraid you are going to be in a fairly not-so-nice area. If you stay in a hotel closer to your host, you will definitely not be having a quick taxi ride to the Metro.

Not sure what to tell you at this location. Maybe someone that lives closer to that area will chime in with some better ideas.
