Sorry for posting this, but I need some good advice. We love Disney, and go pretty much every year to every other year, but next year we want to go somewhere different for our semi annual holiday.

We are looking for suggestions (we went to a travel agency today and they were USELESS!!!). We want to go somewhere either end of August or Mid December - doesn't have to be a hot destination, but nowhere too cold either. We have 9 days, 8 nights. We talked about Japan, but fear that the plane ride will take up WAY too much time. We talked about an Alaskan cruise, but personally, I get a little sea sick and don't know if I would be able to handle it, despite a large dose of dramamine. We talked about the Canadian East coast too....but again, being Canadian, it seems too close to home for me and I want something a little more than that.

We plan on a European tour in 2010, so that's out. I know that's not a lot of days, but in May we are going to Puerto Rico, so we are already using half of our holidays. We have no children, so don't need anything family oriented. We are adventurous too but like relaxation at the same time....Any suggestions? Thanks - Joline

The American West - Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah

Any of the above sound great. What about a road trip combining the national parks in Utah, going over to Las Vegas, NV, and ending up in San Francisco or Anaheim (if you get the Disney itch).

Utah has great national parks to explore: Arches, Bryce Canyon, and/or Zion. Las Vegas has excitement. San Francisco is diverse with culture and activity. I've been to all and have had great experiences there.

P.S. I live in Hawaii and it would make a good island hopping trip for the adventurous (hiking, horseback riding on a beach, parasailing, etc) and how could anybody not relax while sitting on the beach listening to the waves or looking down onto a green valley after a hike up a ridge.

Have you ever been on a cruise ship? If not I wouldn't right off that option. The ride is pretty smooth these days and cruising is a wonderful vacation

Hawaii is just a great place to go to. I've been there on my honeymoon for 16 days and I did island hopping and absolutely loved it. Very romantic place to go with your hubby. Another place I'm sure you would enjoy is visiting California. One time we flew to San Francisco from Ottawa and from there we rented a car, we went to Los Angeles and afterwards San Diego and from San Diego we flew back to Ottawa. It was a very scenic trip and California is so diversified in weather and scenery that it made it very enjoyable. Yosemite is also very nice to visit from San Francisco. Hope you find what you are looking for your next trip.

We did an Alaskan cruise in 2005. With the size of the boats, plus the fact that an inside passage trip is a protected inlet, I'm not sure that seasickness is too much of a problem.

We had a WONDERFUL time and saw and did some pretty neat stuff.

We have an online trip report/photo journal if you want to see what it's like:

Perhaps the Grand Tetons and/or Yellowstone. Both have beautiful scenery, lots of great hiking opportunities, wildlife to see. In the Grand Tetons, there are some awesome river rafting trips too.

I would definitely not rule out a cruise. From what you're saying a cruise would be perfect! My mom is afraid of the water- she can't swim, is terrified of boats & gets motion sickness very easily & somehow we talked her into a cruise & she loves them! It's either WDW or a cruise for us. If you take one Dramamine a day starting the day before your cruise you'll really not need to worry. I find you only really feel the ship rocking later, usually bed time, so it's really not bad & when I say rocking it's not near as noticeable as it sounds.

A cruise is the best because you get to see many places but you don't have to keep packing & unpacking. They're relaxing, but at the same time VERY adventurous. It's the best of both worlds! I love cruising. :cloud9:

We've done an Alaskan cruise on the Princess, an eastern caribbean on the Norwegian Dawn & we're going on the DCL Magic in Nov & we'll be visiting Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel & Castaway Kay.
