This is OT, but I searched goggle for 45 minutes and had no luck. DD's birthday is Friday and she wants to take a treat in. Cupcakes were banned from her class due to recent cupcake fights! :confused3
I tried to order some but it was $72.00 for 24!!!! I could bake them cheaper and have found sticks, etc. Has anyone done this? What kind of icing do you use that you can bag without it sticking? I want to write on the icing too but don't want the gel to stick to the bag (they need to be individally wrapped. Can you use Pillsbury cookie dough? Thanks for any help!

Creamy Vanilla Frosting (then just use food coloring to the shade you want)

3 Cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 Tablespoons milk

Mix powdered sugar and butter. Stir in vanilla and milk. Beat until smooth.

I use this recipe on my sugar cookies. Just frost and let them sit out until the frosting is dry before you put them in bags.

I really can't answer your question. I have a special pan used to make cake pops. SO that the cake is on a stick and I have always just used regular frosting. But have you thought of rice crispie treats like the one at WDW? That might be easier to make and transport to school.

Oh, just wanted to add, that I make things like pumpkin faces with the frosting. I jsut keep some aside and tint it another color. Then put in a ziplock bag, snip off the corner and use that. Would that be better than the gel?

I saw Sandra Lee on Semi-Homemade on the food network do these with cookie mix. Here's a link to the recipe. The meringue powder is probably something you have to buy at a place that sells specialty baking stuff (I know they have it at the Michael's near me), but that is what makes the icing hard.

I have also seen it done with Pillsbury dough. Roll it out thicker than you normally would make the cookies, stick the sticks in, and refridgerate for an hour before baking.

I am sorry...I don't know how to make cookies on a stick, but how about posting your question over on the "Cooking, Crafting and Scrapbooking" Board here on the DIS? The people who frequent that Board have all sorts of wonderful recipes and ideas, and can likely help you out :sunny: ! I can't believe that some company wants $72 for you to order these!

Here is a recipe with the hard frosting that you do not need merigue powder for. (Merigue powder is just powdered egg whites - unless you are going to use a lot of it, I would not purchase it.)

1 egg white
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 2/3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

Beat until light and fluffy.

This frosting takes color very well. It also is a hit with children.

I did rice krispi treats on a stick for my son, and did chocolate on top. If you melt the chocolate and then put it in the fridge to harden after decorating, you don't need to worry about it sticking.
Good luck!

Thanks for the above icing recipe. I bought everything except the merinque because I hated to spend $4.99 and use it once. I've already spent over $30.00 on these cookies! I did get a pan, which was $8.00.

I happen to make these all the time. I know you've already bought all your stuff, but here's what I do. I buy the duncan hines sugar cookie mix in a bag. All you do is mix, roll, and cut out your shapes. Lay them on top of the stick and bake. After they cool, frost them. Here is my frosting recipe. It's very yummy, dries hard, and is cheap.

One cup of powdered sugar
2 tsp. milk
2 tsp. corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix and then add your coloring. Pipe onto cookies and then let sit out overnight. Then I put them in bags and tie with curling ribbon. Very cute.

You don't need the pan, you should try and return it if you can. Hope this helps!

If the youngsters are having cupcake fights I'd worry about what they'll do with the sticks after they eat the cookies. :)

They will take them home with them in the bag and eat them there. I think the teacher is more worried about getting icing on the new carpet and all over the desks.

i wish my DD8's school allowed us to do homemade treats for our children-everything MUST be store bought :( i've SO wanted to make fancy cookies w/ frosting for her birthday, caramel apples for halloween, etc., but it'd just be thrown out if i did. good luck making your cookies! i'm sure they'll be yummy!

to yesi'mobsessed. I am going to try your recipe! Yahoo sounds easy yet so fancy and fun. Thanks

Lots of schools around here have stopped letting the homemade treats as well. Mostly because of all the problems with meth in the area. One school was also talking about doing away with store bought treats as well. Because it can get laid on the counter and the residue will be picked up and brought in on the packaging. It's sad.
