starting to think about next years vacation...
anything fun to do in myrtle beach?

glad you asked this question. I have already reserved a condo next summer here, but haven't started planning yet. Can't wait to read the responses!

Broadway at the Beach has some rides the kids will love and lots of fun shopping. You can go to the beach (the old Pavilion) and there is an arcade that is a lot of fun. Tanger Outlets too. Google Visit Myrtle Beach...it has lots of resources.

thanks for your responce. i love outlet malls

There really is alot to do there. Remember that it is not just Myrtle Beach. Many smaller beaches right around and its very easy to travel to them. There is North Myrtle Beach, Surfside, etc.. Just look at a map and google each town.

Barefoot Landing is one of our favorites, shopping, food, Aligator Adventure and House of Blues. Dick's Last Resort restaurant is one of our all time fav's, but beware it is not like other restaurants.

Our last trip was in 2009 and we stayed in Surfside Beach. Loved it!!! It is removed from the hustle of MB, but still close enough. A lot of the beaches offer things to do on the beach.

There are many coupon books you can pick up for free while you are there, they have coupons for alot of the big attractions. Here is one...

We have been going to MB since we were kids (we live in NC) and we go there on our off years from WDW. Have fun!!

I just came back from 9 days there. Personally, I didn't feel that there was much to do there. It is a beach place....that's what you do, go to the beach. Aside from that there are tons of great golf courses...and cheap too if you book 48 hours in advance. There is lots of shopping if that appeals to you and some good restaurants.

I would suggest that when looking for acommodation that you avoid the south part of Ocean Blvd. Stick to the north around 21st St. We were in the south part and it's really old and didn't appear to be well maintained. Our friends were in the north and it was beautiful. The south is less expensive and trust me when I say you get what you pay for.

I LOVE mb. We go every year. We hit the beach during the day and at night there is Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach (shops, rides, mini golf, IMAX), they have a new MBCommons shopping area but I haven't been there. There are go kart parks, water parks, a zillion mini-golf courses. We also love Dixie Stampede, there is a Medieval Times, as well as Alabama Theatre and the Carolina Opry. There are horseback riding places where you can ride on the beach. A children's museum (though I haven't been there). The Aquarium is decent too and there are a ton of other Ripley's attractions that I haven't been at in years. There are also oulet shopping centers and malls.
At the beach, you can parasail (which is pretty awesome), take banana boat rides, they have dolphin watch cruises. There is a zoo in Waccattee (though I would probably skip that. It's neat because you can feed all the animals like deer and bears and monkeys, but it's really sad because the conditions are not great for the animals. It almost looks more like a hoarding situation...).

There are some great restaurants too.

How is the traffic? When we went a few years ago and stayed in North Mrytle Beach to go to a restaurant at say Barefoot landing, you better get there before 5pm or you had a long wait??/ any change?? :confused3

MB is one of my favorite places. We tend to go in April now, and I have never been during the summer so for crowds I can not answer that, but I think there is a lot to do depending on what you are looking for. You can do the amusement park, lots of golf, lots of minutare golf, go-carts, shows, barefoot lands (shopping and resturants), aquarium (really nice), etc. We tend to sit on the beach during the day, eat a earlier dinner, and then it's off to minutare golf somewhere. For me it's a very relaxing vacation.

South of MB is Brookgreen Gardens with sculptures, gardens, butterlies, etc. I also liked touring Atalya at the state park near there. Georgetown is historic. If your children are young, the sc children's museum is fun.

Anyone recommend a nice, reasonably priced place to stay. our family is planning on going to mb next summer. any pointer/tips would be appreciated as we have never been there.

I'd love to know recommendations too! We're thinking about MB for our vacation next year.

DH and I just went to MB at the end of September. Unfortunately, there was a tropical storm system there for 5 out of the 6 days and we were stuck inside a lot. We had a condo but were very disappointed that there wasn't much to do. We did like the outlet malls and went to Broadway at the Beach a few times. Unfortunately, the rain really put a damper on things. We also took a day trip to Charleston and explored there just to get away from the rain. Other than that, we went to the movies and also bought some DVDs to watch in the condo. Neither one of us are real 'show' people, so we weren't interested in the Carolina Opry or other shows. I think it was unfortunate timing with the weather, but we both said that there just wasn't enough to do and we wouldn't go back.

We go to Myrtle Beach every year. My paents have a timeshare there and you can't argue with free. Anywhoo... to me it's really over crowded. It takes forever to get somewhere, however there is a ton to do there. We absolutly love barefoot landing. There are tons and tons of shops and there is a carnival area with games and a carosel for kids to ride. There are also fabulous shows at myrtle beach if you are fan of shows (broadway style, comedy, and variety). We stay in north myrtle beach at windy hill. Cherry Grove is also a very nice place to stay which is just above north myrtle beach.

We have only gone in April and August and the crowds are not bad at all and the traffic is no problem. You go to Myrtle Beach for either the beach, golf or seafood restaurants. There is always shopping, the Dixie Stampede and the Alabama Theater, but they can be expensive. We also like Longwood Gardens, Myrtle Beach speedway and the state parks around the area if things get too crowded in Myrtle Beach proper. But, the place is so big, we have never had an issue with crowds. I agree that the funbeaches. com webiste is the best for info about the area. :cool2:
