Looking for info on Myrtle beach.

Got a GREAT price on a 2 bedroom condo for the March break,($400 all amenities included for 5 days and resort has a cool water park/pool area, and it's oceanfront) Thought we'd take a quick in-expensive getaway . ( Man, do we need it with all this snow!)

What route do you drive? ( from Buffalo)

Where do you recommend staying ( North, center, south... still trying to figure it all out!)

and what about inexpensive things to do...

Any advice?
With a big trip in April, this is just a quick "I NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE " trip.

Thanks!

Here I am again. You guys keep posting topics that interest me. We LOVE Myrtle Beach. What resort are you staying at? Personally I love south Myrtle much more than north. We've typically stayed around the mid to south area but the last time we went, we stayed really south (almost to Surfside Beach) and loved it. We stayed at Myrtle Beach Resort and I found a really nice condo there for $1200 for the week (this was in June). Myrtle Beach Resort has several pool options. Although in March, it may be a little too chilly for a swim, at least for me, it would.

There is SO much to do at Myrtle. You can spend at least 2 evenings shopping at Broadway at the Beach (and not buy anything, yeah right) and another evening at Barefoot Landing (North). We're beach all day & go out at night kind of people so that's typically what we did. We'd have a nice dinner at about 5-6, then take in some shopping, etc and then hit some nightclubs at Broadway. Clearly before kids!

On our last trip, our son was 2. He had a blast eating at Margaritaville (it's at Broadway) and dancing as the entertainer sang. He loved watching the mini-golf course with the dragon do it's thing - the dragon comes out & talks and breathes fire. Very cool. We also took him to some small kiddie park where the only fee was the price of the tickets to ride. And again, he loved that. There's tons of mini-golf courses everywhere and a lot of times if you golf early in the day you can golf the rest of the day for free up until a certain time.

Wow...okay, I'm rambling. Please PM if you have any question. Myrtle Beach is nice place. Now it's not WDW nice but it's great all the same.

Oh one more thing, eat at Carolina Roadhouse which is in North. Yummy!

And also, What is Grand Strand area?
Is that a good place to book, or is it full of " party goers...":scared:

That's just what they call the entire Myrtle Beach area to be honest. It's the Grand Strand. :)

Here's my preferred route to MB, SC
http://maps.google.ca/maps?daddr=My...605688,-80.991211&spn=15.251598,27.817383&z=5
Stay in the Greensboro area overnight.
Leave around 8:00 am and you'll arrive in MB around 12:00.

We stay in Surfside Beach, SC. Just a little south of MB. Not as busy.

Do you mind if I ask where you are staying? I would love to get away w/ the family this spring and have been looking to try something different than the usual AI vacation we usually take.

It's the Bay View Resort.
Check out TravelZoo for deals, type in Myrtle beach , and a few resorts pop up.

Don't know very much about it, just that the price was right... ( pretty good reviews on Tripadvisior).

Awesome. Thanks for the directions.

What is weather like? I see about 60 F / low of 50 F???. Not hot, but better then here.

My friend is telling me not to do it. Too cold and rainy in March.:confused3

I love love love Myrtle Beach!
We love to go mini putting! Pirates cove and the tiki one (dont remember what its called but you will see it)
love hamburgers at fudruckers :)
Broadway at the Beach
Outlet mall shopping
the alligator place at barefoot landing
ripleys aquarium
ect ect ect!

You will have an awesome time! :)

Looks like your resort is right in the heart of Myrtle Beach.
As for the weather our first visit in '93 was the end of March and weather was in the 80's and we looked like lobsters.
Weather is a crap shoot could be cool in the 50's or it can be very warm.

I can highly recommend this family owned restaurant. They've moved to a new location.

Is that a good thing? Or bad, as in some shady characters,... Niagara Falls Clifton Hill comes to mind...

Trying to keep it a family friendly vacation... (with maybe some cocktails at the condo:upsidedow ...thanks for the link!)

this is exactly what it was like in my opinion. We stayed at 2 locations... first in north MB then near the main area. With little kids, I would DEFINATELY stay north!!! there are some shady areas and it reminded me of a combo between niagara falls, and the younger 20s crowd of drinkers and druggies from wasaga beach!

you can pm me if you want the locations we stayed at.

Mid Myrtle Beach is nothing but a long, long row of high rise hotel after high rise hotel. Not very appealing, IMHO.

Your right in between two of the old school attraction of MB.
The Pavillion which I believe is now closed down and moved to Broadway at the Beach and Family Kingdom Amusement Park. Very old amusement parks like the ones you find at rural fairs.

As previous poster said a little bit of Clifton Hill and the seedy beach 1 area of Wasaga Beach

Did any folks on trip advisor comment on the area?

As posted prior we like the Surfside Beach area of the Grand Strand.

You condo should be fine and the beaches are wonderful.

We go down every spring break too. There are many families from our area that join us and each year we try to do something new.

The weather is hit and miss. It feels warm to us but if it is that important to you-I would suggest going farther south.

Our resort has an indoor pool and lazy river to keep the kids happy at night and in case of inclement weather. Two years ago it was really hot but last year we had a few days of rain, wind and cold.

Our kids enjoy Magicquest, the ripley's museum and the mini-putts.

So if you decide to head down you will see tons of Ontarians!

Great! Thanks again everyone for the great info. I knew my DIS friends would help me out!

I checked out the rate at DUNE Village and it was a bit more then the rate I got for Bay View ( but it looks BEAUTIFUL!). So we will take our chances with the location , and try it out. The reviews on Travelocity and tripadvisor have all been very positive ( clean , well equiped..just issues with the elevators).

And HAM HAM , thanks again. The reviews I checked said the location was within walking distance to everything( shops restaurants ect.)... so if it's a little "Clifton-ish" we'll make sure to walk a little quicker!! :rotfl: Also the pool / lazy river you have to have a wrist band , so I'm sure it must be pretty well supervised.

I'll post some info when we come on this resort.
Like I said , the price was really good, and it's worth a try! And if I don't need boots and a winter coat, I'll be a happy camper!

We love Myrtle Beach. We usually alternate for year to year between Disney and Myrtle Beach. We usually go first week of May, just before biker week. We just missed the opening of Hard Rock Park last May. Anyone been there, love to know what it is like. This year we are going to Disney. We find plenty to do in Myrtle beach. We are also beach people, beach most of the day then head out in the evening when it cools off a bit. Love Broadway at the Beach. We have driven down a couple of times but lately have been flying from portland maine to raleigh, nc. then renting and driving from there, about a 3 hr drive. Flying into Myrtle Beach is expensive, 2 of us can fly into raleigh cheaper than one into myrtle beach. Anyways cannot wait until 2010 our next visit.

Just read an article on this park that said it just filed for bankrupcy, and it just opened last year!
I'll try to find the link to the article.
