OT: My Past Two Days At Work...

We're going to WDW for 3 or 4 days next week for a relaxing vacation. After the past two days, we need it.

This is what has happened at the school where my wife and I work:

Yesterday: A student dies. It wasn't even something that is expected. Poor kid died from a staph infection that eventually moved to his brain. No idea how he got it. The day was so emotionally draining. Kids were devastated.

Today: A truck runs off the road about 200 yards from the school. He had a heart attack, lost control, and slammed into a poll. Power goes out for 4 hours and they don't send the students home. We are without lights and have no way to teach really (the design of the school has very few windows). AT THE SAME TIME AS THE POWER OUTAGE, we are told we are on lockdown and all doors are locked. It turns out that a guy shot a couple of people about a mile away and the cops were trying to find him. The worst news of the day was after school we found out the driver of the truck didn't make.

It's also been raining heavily this week. Creeks and lakes are now starting to flood. It was dangerous enough driving to work this morning and I don't want to even think about how nasty it will be tomorrow!

Wow, between you and IWISHFORDISNEY, my pixie dust bottle will be almost empty. Hang in there.

YIKES! :grouphug: to you, your wife and your community. How sad.

Here's to a relaxing trip next week so you can regroup.

My Goodness! That is the worst two days I have heard of in a while. Hope tomorrow is better. At least you will be getting away for a little while next week.

Sounds like we are both having a bad week. I hope things improve and you enjoy your vacation.

 Hope tomorrow's a better day. It's great that you have the trip planned - you've sure earned it!

The two of you truly deserve a wonderful vacation. I hope it is relaxing with some pixie dust coming your way. pixiedust:

Thanks everybody for the well wishes. Although I have an addition to the story and it's only 8:30 AM!!!

ISo, here is my normal routine. I get up between 5:15 and 5:30 AM. Bethany (my wife) and I get ready and then I wake up Allie and Lindsay (9 and 6, respectively) to get them dressed. After they get dressed, I send them downstairs to get their hair done by Bethany. I usually finish up what ever else I need to do and then I bring our 9 month old, Audrey, downstairs to get ready. So if everything moves okay, we normally leave the house between 6:20 and 6:30 in the morning for the 30 minute drive to our school (my wife and I teach at the same middle school.)

Well this morning we were right on schedule. I am literally picking up Audrey's car seat and I have my hand on the door knob when my cell phone rings. It's the automated phone number from the school system. SCHOOL HAS BEEN CANCELLED. The flooding caused the main water line in the area to burst so no school has water. So while I am glad to have a day off, GEEZ what else can happen? I swear, if I see ONE LOCUST today, I'm going to church for the first time in years and apologize for my heathen ways. hahahaha

"Snow days" are great, but only when you are still in your jammies!

Once you're up, you're up!

Sorry for your hard week! We lost a student last year it was the most horrible thing for us and the school....

My sympathy to your entire school community....
