Slightly off topic, but my great hamster hunt is over! I have the Zhu Zhus and all of the accessories that I wanted to get. :thumbsup2 I made DH take the camera with us to photograph the line outside of TRU, but there were only about 8 people! He did take a picture of me outside the store with the last piece of our collection. I will be scrapping my adventures and posting them soon! :lmao:

Click the link below to see the finished page. I hope to post the page with Jacka's reaction tomorrow.

Love it!! :thumbsup2

Ya know, I was tempted to head down to our TRU this morning to get some "just because" even tho I have no-one who wants them! I was briefly caught up in the hamster hype!

Years ago (and I am talking MANY years ago) my Mom & I happened to be in a store when a shipment of Cabbage Patch kids came in and we managed to get one and felt all giddy about it since people were lining up outside stores and fighting over them and we just happened to be in the right place at the right time. (epic run-on sentence) My Mom ended up keeping it for herself and still has it! :) (I think it was from the '70's)

I was surprised when I walked into TRU about 10:00 am and there was a huge bin full of them. Then I walked around the corner and there was a table with about 20 sets of the 4 pack which has the new ones that have not been out yet. I got one for my ds, but I don't know what he is going to do with 8 hamsters. I did want the pink one for myself. Oh well I will save them for his kids. Heck I still have my oldest's furbies. My ds3 has been playing with those at times.

LOL, I got caught up in the furor this morning! I bought a 4 pack and I have no idea why? Princess hasn't asked for them and I really didn't need to spend another $50! I'll be bringing it back ;)

It was probably in the early 80s that when cabbage patch dolls were in. I remember the various Christmases in elementary school when I got them and some of the lines for them.

I am so glad my kids are older and didn't want these... Cabbage Patch were big... I was in my teens..and my Daddy hunted high and low for one for me.... I didn't even ask for one but he was so proud of his present!
I bought one for my DD for her first Christmas and we still have it... It has gone through all 4 kids (DsS18 didn't want any part of it, but like his Polka doll, little flimpsy doll w/ a polka dot outfit, yes, I have photos of he and Polka together!)....and is still in great condition.. I have it tucked away from my grandbabies!!!

So glad those of you who wanted them were able to get them and for a good price considering some of the astronomical costs that have been discussed on eBay and other sites...

Oh let me tell you...I was the little one who had to have a Cabbage Patch Kid and since I was the only child and the only grandchild boy did I get them! After responding to a newspaper ad, my aunt drove across town and paid some guy $70 for a bald CPK with a pacifier...the only kind I wanted! :lmao: I still have him, his name is Wayne, after my grandfather's barber! :goodvibes

I got one the not too long after they came out, I was in 2nd grade. My grandpa paid $50 for one someone had advertised in the newspaper. I remember thinking that was a fortune! That would have been 1982-83 school year, I think?

Congrats on the hamsters! I've been tempted to try, just for the challenge of it, but I have no idea what I'd do with them. My boys have no interest, thank goodness!

so i bought them with jennifer today because my great nieces were asking for them. so my niece had 2 but needed three. i bought a four pack. so she is going to bring her's back and i'm going to open up the four pack and put it on my mantle for christmas morning and put a name tag on each one, so her three kids get one and so does bubba! all good!

and yes this is the same niece that my mother and i went crazy getting a cabbage patch kid for.
i did it for her, now i'm doing it for her kids!

and for those that are looking for the new lego sets, i bought them today too!!!!

I had a CPK doll. Robyn Hope was her name. Princess has her now. I have no idea how much they paid for it, but one of my sisters got it for me, I think. My memory is baaaaaaaaaaad.

ok, I have to admit that I fell for it and after I got an e-mail from TRU saying they were in stock I went and ordered 5 of them at $9.99/each - one for dd and two for the two friends she exchanges gifts with and two for two nieces....

When ds & I were at TRU around 4 they didn't have any at all and no accessories - our cashier said that as soon as they came in they were gone.

Hope the girls like them!

Oh snap, that is a great idea! If I could have gotten just one, I would have, but we certainly don't need 4!! I'm going to bring that 4 pack back...Or should I list it on eBay?

If people are going crazy for them then e-bay them. A couple of years ago my mum bought a Wii for each set of grandchildren - mine and my sister's kids - and DBIL was saying "look, e-bay them for double the price, the kids won't mind an IOU":lmao: She didn't listen, and the kids still remember it as their best Christmas! But if you don't need them then cash them in;)

I wanted a CBK but my mum said I was too old and they were ugly anyway:sad2: But I do remember my aunt getting hold of a Buzz Lightyear each for DS(16) and DNeph(16) when they first came out - the boys were so small we hadn't even seen Toy Story, but she'd heard everyone wanted one so she got them one each:woohoo:

I just looked and there are a TON on eBay. I'm always a day late on these types of things. I wasn't planning on getting rich off the hamsters, but a little extra would be nice ;)

Yes, in September they were going for as much as $70 on ebay! :scared1: Now that the stores seem to be better saturated the prices have really came down. I cannot lie, when DH first lost his job I thought of listing all of our Zhu Zhu stuff to make a little money, but then I would feel guilty.

i got mine at CVS on friday --- no one there --- tons on the shelf and even got the boat and the car with the surf board --- my boys are going to be so excited ---
since DS4 said to me the other day "mama, I am going to write a note to santa - how do you spell hampster?" my response "oh honey --- I dont think santa can make any more of those" since i figured i couldnt get them to save my life ---
they are cute and i look forward to scrap booking them

Very cool! I got the boat too, but have not seen the car with the surfboard. I would much rather have that than the basic car we have. Maybe I will luck into finding it and I can exchange them. Make sure to post what you scrap. :thumbsup2
