OT: My fur babies are sick

I got a call and for some reason my cell didn't even ring so it was a voicemail that he has cancer with 2 lobes affected. They said something about calling oncology and chemotherapy and I am back to overwhelmed. I WISH I had actually gotten the call so I could have gotten some details like what does that mean and the specifics of how fast it grows etc, etc. so now I guess I have to wait till Monday. UGH!!!

PS He seems to be doing ok other than that.

Izzy seems to be doing ok. He is not so happy to see me right now as out of the crate is his big priority. I let him out to sit with me and he spends the time swooshing his tail and trying to figure a way off my lap! Guess he must be feeling a bit better!

I am so sorry that you have to go through this too and it is even more difficult when you have to think about the money end of things. I charged 3400 on my VISA for the cat and may be canceling our March trip. Disney will there but Izzy maybe won't. Please keep me posted on ur dog - I'm crying with you.

Tonight when I had Izzy out of the crate for some snuggle time he poked at one of his cat toys for a few minutes. It was really cute! He is also a little bit crabby lol. I don't balme him tho! The results of the biopsy came back that his tumors in his lungs were secondary cancer. It is coming from somewhere else in soft tissue. So I guess the surgery was a staller and he still has cancer that they won't be able to get rid of. I called for oncology today but havn't heard back from them. I am not sure how grim the prognosis is but maybe will have an idea in a few days. I think we will canceled half of our vacation. The girl who comes to stay with our pets can't stay until the second half of our trip and that would leave them getting fed and checked on twice per day and I am not comfortable with him being left the rest of the time for 6 days. I actually want to cancel the whole thing but am torn about disappointing my son. We bought tickets to 2 Red Sox Spring Training games and he is a huge Sox Fan and will be devestated if we don't go to at least that portion of the trip. Life is so complicated sometimes

Perhaps the vet can recommend a good kennel for Izzy to go to while you're gone. One that will meet his medical needs.
I have a great place that I take my 4 furbabies to when I travel. My one cat, Magoo, is diabetic and requires insulin injections twice a day. They take care of his shots and feed him his special diet catfood too.

The vet and staff might be able to help. Good luck

I've found that when my "children" aren't feeling well, they pretty much know how to pace themselves. The only issue is stitches sometimes and even then I've never had any severe issues

You do need to watch the stitches! My dear departed dog chewed her stitches out late at night after surgery...the whole incision was open, you could see inside her! Went wound up in the 24 hr emergency vet - Murphy happy as a clam, thrilled to see new faces..they said "she doesn't look sick"..I said "she's not - she's just stupid". $240 later, we brought her home with staples and ome gauze wrapped around her to keep her off the spot.

Izzy is healing well although he frightened me yesterday with a coughing fit. It think it hurt him and he was very quiet afterwards but hasn't coughed since and is eating like a piggy and playing a bit too. I talked to oncology and the Dr. will consult via phone next Tuesday. I am so happy that I don't have to bring him in as he is so uncooperative for anyone but me. His stitches come out Tuesday at my home vet and I am debating giving him a dose of the pain meds to make him sleepy and pain free for the removal. He still will not let me touch his side or pick him up although he does sit against me and let me rub his face and chin while he purrs. Not sure how I will get him in the carrier on Tuesday... any suggestions? Do you think it is ok to give him a reduced dose of the pain meds to make it managable for me and easier for him? He is being really good for me and seems to know that he needs to stay quiet. Thanks again for all your support!

I just lost my kitty of 16 years two weeks ago. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make and I am still having a hard time with it. We took very good care of him and loved him dearly.

I am sorry you lost your kitty. I lost my first fur baby two years ago at age 21. I miss her so much still. I had her longer than my children at the time we lost her and I was devestated. Be comforted with the wonderful care you gave and the great life you shared for 16 years. I will pray for your peace and healing from your loss.

I'm not a vet, so this is just my personal opinion - I think it would be a good idea to give him a reduced dose of the pain meds before his vet appt. Otherwise, if he got stressed out and struggled a lot, he might injure himself (or you or the vet).

I agree with the OP, smaller dose of the pain meds before the suture removal soulds like a great idea.

Hope Izzy hasn't been having anymore coughing spells. I can feel his pain, poor kitty
