I am so upset right now, as I got a call from the vet and my cat who is only 11 has a tumor in his right lung, She is thinking it is cancer but depending on what the CT scan shows he may or may not be able to have surgery. On top of that, my dog age 7, has a wierd condition that noone has been able to diagnose since November and they still don't know what is wrong with her. Her teeth are spreading apart and her jaw bones are growing. She has been to 5 vets all over New England and they still have no idea why this is happening. All her tests and blood work are normal and they are suggesting a brain MRI for her next. We are waiting for a sepcial blood test being done in Michigan on her. The CT scan on Izzy (cat) is tomorrow at the cost of $1000 - but I couldn't say not to do it and I have spent a small fortune on Josie (dog) already as well. I am so sad and overwhelmed that I just don't even know what to do next!

Thanks for listening, I know there are lots of fur baby lovers who would understand.

I hope all goes well. Sending you and the fur babies hugs.

Mary Kay

You're in good hands with any of the Specialty hospitals in MA. Which one is she at?

Thank you all for your support. I really appreciate it.

Izzy is at Tufts Medical School in Grafton, MA. Izzy (cat) had his CT scan this afternoon and then was taken in to surgery to remove 2 lesions on one lung lobe and to look at one suspect area on another lobe. They won't be able to tell me what is wrong until after the biopsy comes back but the removal of the lesions will at least buy him some time. They couldn't do an needle biposy because the largest area was encapsulated and it was too dangerous. I had to make the decision about the surgery quickly as they called while he was still under anesthesia to see how to proceed. I hope I did the right thing as I don't want him to suffer but the surgery was the only option to even figure out the prognosis. He has not been acting sick and only had a cough once in a while. They did say if we didn't treat it the encapsulated thing could burst and he would die from it. It has been an agonizing day.

Josie (dog) has been to Acton Vet Dental Specialists, Tufts Dental Specialists in Walpole and Tufts Internal Medicine in Grafton. They are all working together to try an figure our her teeth /jaw problem and we are waiting for bloodwork results on a growth hormone test from Michigan. They only run it once a month so that is on hold till we can figure what to do next.

I am trying not to be too overwhelmed and I do realize that these are pets but they are my babies too.

Vet just called as I was typing - surgery went well he is resting medicated and we can maybe go see him tomorrow. She removed 2 lung lobes.

Thank you all fro your good vibes.

Erika

Thanks for the update Erika -

continuing my prayers for you and the fur babies

You absolutely did the right thing with Izzy - you and the doctors need to know more so you can decide on the next step. I know waiting for the biopsy results (as well as Josie's test results) is frustrating ... hopefully it won't take too long. More hugs for you, Izzy, and Josie.

This AM's update was a little hard as they said Izzy was very upset and agitated and they could'nt work on him very well. Agonized all day and tonight they said that they had removed the chest tube and it went well. He has been resting ok and seemingly content when left be in the cage. He will be in ICU tonight. I will go and visit him tomorrow and hope it won't distress him more to be visited.

Thanks all, I can't tell you how helpful it is to have this support.

Erika

I'm sure Izzy will be thrilled to see his "Mom" - the stress will be for you to see him in that situation.

Have a wonderful visit -

They called this AM and said he is doing really well post op but will not eat for them OR let them touch him at all. They feel it is best he comes home tonight to reduce the stress which will aid in his recovery. I will be on "cat watch" 24/7 at least through the weekend so wish me luck. He will have to be crated for the next 3 weeks they said, will be interesting once he feels better. We may be canceling our March trip to WDW tho but thas ok with me. If he needs the care I'd rather be home. I am a little afraid of how he looks and caring for him properly .

Thanks for the support!

Erika

Oh no! I'm so sorry this is happening! My thoughts and prayers are with you guys!

Hopefully Izzy is home by the time you read this. I'm sure he will be much happier being back in familiar surroundings. Don't hesitate to call Tufts if you have any questions or concerns about his recovery.

Please keep us updated.

Izzy has eaten and purred and is resting comfortably in crate in his bed, I am sleeping on the floor pillows next to him. :)

Thanks for your prayers and well wishes.
