My dd5 broke her index (fractured) and middle (shattered) fingers 2 weeks ago in a batting cage - she also had to have a bunch of stitches in her finger and nailbed. She has been in a removeable fiberglass cast. Last night we noticed that all of her fingers were swollen - we thought maybe we had the cast wrapped too tightly. This am the broken middle finger was still really bad but the others had gone down. She got up seriously cranky and we noticed right away that she had a fever - we took it and it was 102.6. We also noticed that she was making frequent trips to the potty and was complaining that she couldn't get them all out. Well on one of those trips, she forgot to flush. Dh was in there and said there was blood in the toilet. My oldest dd took her to the ER to find that she has a very bad kidney/bladder infection. She mentioned the swollen fingers and they re-xray'd her hand. The finger has not healed at all and she has pockets of infection in the bone. They admitted her and put her on 3 different antibiotics while they try to determine what type of infection she has. If it's not better by tomorrow, they are going to have Orthopedics drain the infection. Once they get the infection down, she will have to have surgery to fix the finger.
sorry to hear hope she is feeling better soon

! I hope she comes home soon and they can get that infection. I had no idea a batting cage could be that dangerous!
