Which pump is better to you and why???

My hospital sells the Pump In Style (Traveler) and the Purely Yours with Tote.

I loved my Purely Yours. At that time, it was ~$100 cheaper than the PIS, and got similar reviews. One thing I particularly liked about the PY is that the design prevented milk from backing up into the tubes (so no potential mess there). OTOH, the PIS has a convert-to-manual-pump adapter, I believe, whereas with the PY, I used an Isis as my manual backup pump.

I have and use both the Medela PIS and Ameda PY and they are both great pumps - you can't go wrong with either. I slightly prefer the Ameda because it is small and easy to tuck in any bag (my Medela is big and built into the bag). But for pumping action, both are very, very good, about the same work to clean, and work on the same size bottles.

I used the Medela PIS, it worked great for me. Worth the money!

I liked the Medela. also a pumpimg tip no one told me-pump in the morning you have more milk:thumbsup2

I had a Medela, but honestly used the Avent Isis much more. I even got a second Isis when my second DS was born, so I could do both sides at the same time, or always have a clean one waiting, or to keep one at home and one at work. Best of luck to you!

You might want to check to see if your hospital rents pumps. You will have to buy all the tubes, bottles, etc. I had to pump for my DD, she was too small to BF and we had to add supplements to it anyway to make up for her low birth weight. I rented the Medela hospital grade one...or the Vac-u-suck as my DH called it. It was great...well, great as far as pumps go. Certainly not a trip to Disneyland. Anyway, it ended up cheaper to rent then to buy. HTH!

I wish I had bought the Medela... I have a Avent hand pump, and while Im done with Breast feeding my son, for the next if I have to pump Im going to get the medela..

I have the Medela PISA and love it. Check with your health insurance, first. Some will pay for them if your doc writes you a prescription. Mine did, so i saved $350!

The Purely Yours is wonderful! I have used both and preferred it to the Medela.

I used the Medela PISA with both of my children (DD 3yrs; DS 14 m) for about 13 months each. I absolutely loved it...well as much as you can love a 'milking machine.' :rotfl: I had the backpack one, so it was very convenient to carry back and forth to work. I pumped into the bottles it came with, then poured it into Lansinoh bags. I tried other brands of bags, but liked the Lansinoh the best.

Hope that helps! Any other questions, PM me!

my Purely Yours lasted through 3 kiddos, including 1 preemie.

It is still going strong! I ust had it reconditioned for $25 and will be giving it to my sister to use with her next bundle of joy.

It was around $100 cheaper then teh Medela and I was able to buy a car adaptor for it (Hee hee, I couldn't for the life of me shake the image of trying to ump and drive, but I LOVE to be able to pump anywhere, esp when I was trying to keep my milk supply up with an infant in the NICU for over 6 weeks. Yup - she came home 100% breast fed and didn't wean until 22 months!)

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Best of luck to you!!

The Medela Pump In Style Advance is great! I used it 4 hours a day for 10 months. Never had any problems with it, no leaking, no backing up or anything. Mine was in the shoulder bag, so travel was easy. I used a rental from the hospital for the first month, and the PISA was just as good, in fact a little better as it had a function to help let your milk down.

Good luck!

I had a Purely Yours and was very pleased with it. I used it for about a year with both of my sons and it still going strong.

Make sure and pump at least once in the hospital after baby is born. Not only will the nurses help walk you through that confusing first time, but they will let you keep the tubing and setup kit. Bring it home with you and you will have an extra set. Extra setup=less dishes for mom!

Loved my Medela PIS. Used it for both kids, 15 months each (I returned to work at 8 and 9 weeks, so for the first few months was pumping 2 - 3 times a day). It's in great shape - I sold it to my neighbor (she bought all her own tubes and bottles) and she used it for about 12 months, and is going to use it again over the winter. So you definitely get your money's worth!

The second time around I had the battery pack which was GREAT - the first time I had used the car adapter which was fine, but the battery pack definitely made it more portable.

I also had the Avent Isis hand pump and I must say for a hand pump, it was great. It was nice to have for those times when I didn't want to lug the whole pump around, or (the first time, before the battery pack) I couldn't get to an electrical source (theme park, airport, etc.)

I don't know anyone who had the other, so I can't comment on it. EVERYONE I know has the PIS. I bought mine from an internet store and got a pretty good deal, just do your research first and make sure it's an authorized distributor so you know you're getting a new one.

I love the secret club we have where I work (a building with about 3000 people in it). We have lactation rooms and whenever I see a woman walking to or from that area with the PIS shoulder bag or backpack, we kind of give each other a little sly grin... like "I know what you're doing, none of these guys has any idea, though!!"

Good luck with your decision!
