We are departing Orlando at 6am (brutal, I know, but dealing with ff flights for 5 in March limits options severely). So, we are planning on staying in the Orlando airport Hyatt.

I put in the room request - 2 adults, 3 kids - gave me choice of beds, rates, etc. At the bottom, there was small print about cannot have a rollaway in a room if double beds.

Which got me to wondering... what is the occupancy limit for the Hyatt ? Will we be allowed 5 ? Can we put the extra person either in a bed (squish little people) or on the floor or will it be a problem ?

In the room request, I used 5 people, so I'm not trying to scam the system, but I don't want to get there and have a problem.

I would say phone them directly. I phoned direct for rates and they quoted about 1/2 of the online prices.

If you used their system and said 2adults, 3 kids.

does your confirmation list all of you?

the rules are based on FL fire regs.

I believe the Hyatt charges a fee for the fifth person. I also would suggest calling the hotel directly to find out so you are not surprised when you get there.

I would suggest not mentioning anything to anyone, and just going about your business as usual.

So... I called the hotel.

Prices over the phone are the same as online.

They will sell me a room for 5, however, I am not allowed a rollaway due to Florida fire regs.

So... I can have a room for 5, I just can't sleep 5 (only have 2 double beds). I asked if we are okay to put a 5th on the floor and she laughed and said 'yes'.

So my options are to:
1) bribe a kid to sleep on the floor
2) drink heavily so I can sleep on the floor
3) buy my dh lots of beers so he can sleep on the floor
4) convince kids to sleep 3 in a bed.

While option #4 would make the most sense to most people, those of us with kids 7, 6, 4 know that there is an inordinate amount of kicking that goes on and it probably isn't a good idea for family harmony.

Thanks for all the replies! At least I know an answer now!

Can you bring a readybed? My 6 year old likes sleeping in one.

I vote for option #3 :lmao:

Good idea... except we are traveling light - 2 carryon duffels for 5 people + small kids backpacks is it ! Don't like the hassle of dealing with checking bags...

*sigh* finding lodging for a family of 5 can be a pain, can't it?!?

we stay at embassy suites regularly, and now that my kids are getting almost too big to sleep horizontally across the double bed, we sometimes split them up to fall asleep (one on 1 bed and the 2 most docile on the other other). once they fall asleep we arrange as needed, which means laying the 3 of them across one bed. this won't work well for you with a 7 yr., i would think.

the other thing we have done is moved furniture around the room and pulled the mattress off of the bed onto the floor (which helps in that if the kids get too crowded at night and end up kicking each other off of the bed in their sleep, there isn't too big of a fall). you could do this and lay the comforter/blankets from the beds down next to this with an extra set of sheets over it to make a bigger floor mattress OR you could just make a bed on the floor with the comforters/blankets and an extra set of sheets from housekeeping.

good luck ,and have fun!

My kids have slept quite comfortably on a blow up pool float ($1.50 from walmart) in a hotel room before. Just abandon it when you're done.

I have a ready bed which I was going to take with me this summer, but I love the idea of a pool float. I never thought of that! Now I have to rethink. We have 4 kids going and 2 adults and are staying at Saratoga Springs, but the kids hat to sleep together and fight about it most of the time.

Are there any other airport motels that might better suit your family?

Don't know how old your youngest is, but I have just asked for extra blankets and made a "bed" of 2 doubled over blankets and a pillow.

Dawn

well, my 4 yr old didn't want to share the bed at BW and got mad when we tried to get him to sleep in the bed. We made a special bed on the floor with some extra sheets and pillow and he LOVED his special bed. Wouldn't even let the other kids try it. 4 Yr old are quirky, yours might like it too.

Why not just put the youngest in bed with you and DH? It's only one night - and if the child was in the middle of the 2 of you and the other 2 were on the other bed,no one would have to worry about falling out.

I could never sleep in a double with DH and one of my kids. A queen or king, but not a double. I would opt to put the 3 kids in the double, but have them sleep the opposite way. At their ages no one should be hanging off the bed and there will be more room if you turn them sideways. I was also going to post about the float option. My DSis went to Penn. on vacation and had 2 teen boys and one 8 yr old girl. She bought a float and blew it up and her DD slept on it.
