OT: Math Tutor Rates?

We love her. That's just a bit above what my friends are paying for private tutoring. By the way, we live in Chevy Chase, MD and most of my friends are paying around $65/hr. Threehearts

Remember that you usually don't pay the tutor for their prep time, so that's rolled into the hourly rate.

Thank you all for your advice. I didn't realize that my question would generate so many helpful responses. I'm in upstate NY, and it seems like $40 is about the average for NY, but it still seems quite high. I'm going to look into the possibility of hiring a high school student, as well as checking the local library to see if I can find anyone there as well. Once again, thank you!

5th grade math tutors aruond here get between $35.00 - $40.00 per hour.
Most of them $40.00

18 years ago when I was tutoring I charged $20.00 an hour. With inflation, $40.00 sounds inexpensive to me.

I live in Oklahoma where the Teacher pay is less than most states. I teach night classes for just $15.00 per hour. I have no planning period to grade papers and tacher retirement comes out of that. I think a starting teacher makes about $30,000 per year. My friend taught for over 25 years and made less than $40,000 per year. Sounds like we could make so much more if we tutored.

I have considered setting up a tutor stand on the beach. What do tutors charge in Florida?

My DD, 16, is a junior, she tutors a freshman girl with some slight learning disabilities. She is paid $8.00 an hour. That is the standard rate for high school kids that tutor. Most of the kids tutor middle school/elementary school students. I would definitely check for high school tutors in your area. If your school has a counselor that would be the first person to ask. The high school tutor here have to meet certain standards, they have to have at least a 3.2 GPA and have recommendations from teachers and their HS counselor. Good luck!

My daughter pays 10.00 per hour for tutoring from upper level students at her school. The teacher is in the room supervising.

Ds had a math tutor for the majority of the school year last year. The lady is a mom from his school who has an engineering degree. $50 per hour.

For comparison purposes, my local Sylvan Learning Center charges $50/hr, 2 hour min/week
