I like the Marriott chain of hotels...we are trying their Town Place Suites for the first time in Minneapolis tomorrow (DD flying in from Fl).

I know this is Marriot's budget chain. Any comments on the hotels in general? How are the beds?

Thanks, herc

No one on the boards has stayed at this chain anywhere??

Sorry, didn't answer because I thought you wanted opinions on specific hotel.

Haven't stayed at one in Florida....but it's our preferred hotel in Albuquerque (hubby does a lot of business travel there and the kids and I tag along). We always get the two bedroom suite....it's great to be able to get up early and have a living room to read/computer in without waking everyone up! They have one bedroom suites as well if you don't need 2 bedrooms.

The Albuquerque hotel has always been clean, staff always helpful and sometimes even go "above and beyond". Last fall my daughter left her prized "Princess" jacket in the room and we called the day after we got home and realized it was missing, and they still had it in Lost and Found. We offered our credit card to pay for return postage, but they declined and sent it OVERNIGHT to us at their cost. Won my daughter's loyalty! :lmao:

The kitchens are a nice size, and it's great to have a dishwasher on vacation! If I had to complain about something it would be the sparse amentities for said kitchen.....4 plates, 4 cups, 4 spoons/knife/fork. Meant running the dishwasher or hand washing after every meal which was either a waste of water/electricity or a pain to do by hand on my vacation. And I now carry along our large cookpot, as their largest pot won't even cook 2 pounds of meat for nachos! We always drive so it's easy to bring along a few things, if we flew in, I'd probably just cook 1 pound at a time, lol.

The one in Albuquerque has an outdoor grill for you to use, and amazingly they stock it with charcoal, lighter, and utensils. The pool is small but the hotel has rarely been crowded enough to matter. There is a fitness room with stairmaster and tread mill. Kids aren't allowed in the fitness room which was a nuisance when they were too young to stay in the room alone while I worked out, but I understand the safety concerns.

As I said, it's our preferred hotel in Albuquerque. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, great price.......we don't tend to use the more upscale amenities in hotels so we didn't miss them. The hotel in Albuqueruqe did not have a restaurant attached, but staff is always able to point us to whatever type of restaurant we wanted, local or chain, and so far their recommendations have been great. We tend to stay for at least a week, so I'll cook all but one or two nights....we aren't a family that really likes eating out every night.

Like I said, though, this was in Albuquerque, not Florida, so YMMV.

Thanks for the hhelpful reply! Yes, just looking for general hotel reviews regarding the chain.

Tonight, DD is traveling to Minneapolis from Pensacola, Fl, and we are staying in a 2 bedroom near the airport in Eagan, MN. Then off to Mall of America tomorrow! We usuauly like staying at the Marriott's Residence Inn chain, but that was just too pricy in this area near the MOA.

Rate of $118.

Wow...yeah, I'd say the MOA area must be pricy....the hotel in Albuquerque is $89 for a 2bedroom. Of course this isn't exactly the tourist season for the Southwest, lol.

connie, that's the military rate. Reg rate is about $50 higher, yikes.

The Residence Inn wanted $249 for their 2 br. !!!

The MOA area is the #l tourist desination in MN...even a Day's Inn is gonna be just under $100.

Hi,

We were very happy with the Marriot TownPlace Suites we stayed in in Eagan, MN.

This Suite chain is just a notch below the amenities of the Marriott's Residence Inn's and much cheaper.

We had a 2 bedroom (with doors) unit with one bathroomn, nice fully outfitted kitchen and living room. Everything was clean, queen beds very comfy.Central AC, not window units was really nice keeping the bedrooms quiet with the a/c on.

No breakfast which didn't bother us one bit. DD and I are small eaters. We bought muffing sand milk from the gas station nearby.

and, no smoking in the Marriott hotels.
