This Sat is DD's Bday party. We are having a Luau theme at the house and we have everything set except the food! It's only about 4-5 girls, all 8-9 years old. DD has requested I serve her favorite, caprese sandwhiches, but I also wanted to serve something that goes with the theme.:confused3 For snacks I'll serve goldfish crackers, and chips and dip. For dessert I'm making the cake and serving a half cut pinapple filled with fruit. But what else would you serve? I'm just thinking what if some don't like the sandwhiches, I want them to have something to eat too. I will be serving lemonade too.

How about pineaple pizza? Or a fruit pizza? I like the frozen drink idea (you could buy the frozen Barcardi Breezers & just not add alcohol), w/cute umbrellas & fruit on the rim. You could even buy glasses at the party store & each girl could take one home as a souvenier of the party.

While I think it's great that your DD loves Caprese sandwiches, I would be prepared for the possibility that the other guests may not care for them at all.

I'd go for a pizza for popularity, pineapple plus some form of pork if that doesn't violate your dietary principles. Kebabs would be another possibility, again with pork or with chicken, perhaps.

I can't really help you with your question, but I wanted to make another suggestion. I went to a luau once where they had looked up the Hawaiian equivalent of everyone's names and written them on their name tags. You can look up names on this site. My name is Keniki in Hawaiian!

I did a spongebob luau pirate party one year for my daughter

I did hamburgers....and called them Krabby Patties

potatoe skins ....called coral bits

or you can do alot of fruit/fruit salad like posted earlier
alot of luau food is stuff that most little girls would turn away from...so Id maybe do fun foods & maybe label them with fun signs with witty luau names.
It worked well at my party cause I didnt have alot of leftovers cause people didnt like the taste....just a thought

I found this idea for a Luau food on http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com. (They have quite a few luau party ideas):

pigs in blankets, chicken nuggets, Funyons, popcorn, Cheetos, potato chips, party meatballs in the chili sauce/grape jelly mixture (recipe is on the back of the Heinz Chili Sauce jar), lemon and cherry Jell-O jigglers, spinach dip with bread and crackers and tortilla chips with mild salsa. In addition I made a fruit platter consisting of fresh pineapple cubes, fresh strawberries, mandarin orange segments, mini marshmallows and red grapes. There were parasol picks, flamingo picks and palm tree picks sticking out of about 1/3 of the fruits and it looked really cute. There was also a little bowl of fresh coconut that I had chopped up so the kids could try some if they wanted to. Drink options were root beer floats, virgin pina coladas (the frozen Bacardi mix) and watermelon-kiwi Kool-Aid. We had bought those cute plastic coconut cups from Oriental Trading Co. (OTC) along with the straws with hibiscus flowers on them. The plates were again those Tiki plates (the same as the invitations). Dinner was buffet style and all the kids had fun with the food.

My 3 1/2 yo son had a Lilo and Stitch birthday party when he turned 1. My parents came and brought and made authentic Hawaiian food, but most of our guests did not care for it.

I'm all for keeping it authentic, but I want people to actually eat. lol... The kids enjoyed sliced pineapple, sweet and sour chicken with rice, ham and cheese sandwiches cut into Hawaiian themed shapes, and blue Jello cups with gummy fish set in them. There are lots of ideas on familyfun.com.

I did use those little parasols in drinks and they drank blue KoolAid.

GL!

What about buyins some of those colorful little swords... the ones they put in cocktails ~ and put a couple pieces of fruit and a cube of cheese on each one. They would be really cute ~ they'll go with your theme and be a nice fun little snack - healthy too!! My kids are 10 and 12 and still love getting shirley temples with the little sword in it:laughing: Good luck! Sounds like a fun party.:goodvibes

When my oldest son had a luau party we did roasted pork, roasted potatoes, hawaiian rolls, salad, pineapple upside down cake, pineapple punch, and chocolate fondue. He requested it three years in a row, because he really liked the food. The boy can eat! :)
How about bbq pork sandwiches?
