OT--Kitchen Floor Options

I have real hardwood floors, but my last house had laminate. The negatives on the hardwood floors is that you can't use just anything to clean it with and they scratch easily. We have tons of scratches and a few nicks. We have 2 kids and no inside pets.

We liked the laminate better and when we replace, we will go with laminate. It was easier to clean, did get scratches, but fewer than our hardwoods. If you get it, you want to put the (I think) foam (or some type of padding) underneath. That helps with the noise. It also makes your floor "float" so it is softer on your feet.

We will not buy Bruce, though. Long story there, but the builder put the laminate in and used Bruce. They were supposed to replace the flooring before we moved in because there were poblems and they did not. Bruce gave the builder and us a hard time when we had legitimate complaints.

If you go with a ceramic tile, go with something rated highly on their hardness scale. My MIL has tile in he bath's and kitchen and washroom and all of the rooms have cracked tile in them. One, she dropped her hair dryer on and it cracked! It was cheaper builder grade tile....but what a mess to pull up and redo.
