OT: Kindergartener fighting at school

You are lucky. Our school has a "zero tolerance" policy for both violence and bullying. If your son were in our school he would have been suspended.

Hitting and spanking are NOT the same thing. I'm not looking to start a debate, but that is how those of us that use spanking as a form of discipline see it. Two different actions with two completely different purposes. Everyone has an opinion on the subject, and the two camps are never going to agree. You see it your way, I'll see it mine

I have worked with 5 year olds for many years. I think you both under and over reacted!!

I would have stopped the car and went right back into the school to talk with both the teacher and the principal to get the whole story. I would have talked (and listened) to your son both in front of the teacher and alone. It is so important to get the whole picture.

I think many people do over react when it is a boy-girl situation but in reality it matters so little to five year olds!!

AFter you have the whole story, then deciding on the dicipline would be easier.
I also like finding natural consequences. I think you over reacted in anger and surprise. You want to teach him how to behave, not just "punish" him.

TALK to you son and see what is really going on with him.

there has already been a rather lenghtly thread here discussing these two articles.In breif wahrt was siad:
The sample sizes are too small on the first one to really be statistically valid, and both are from groups known to have an anti-spanking stance prior to those studies, so they carry inherent bias. They found research to support their case, not the other way round. If you read them they both use some pretty biased language right from the start. The OP asked that this not be turned nito a debate on spanking, please just let it go. I am. Can't we just agreeto disagree because the debate is not going to get anywhere. No one here is going to change their mind about spanking or not spanking thier kid based on message board posts, so why argue?
