OT: KINDEL OR NOOK??? would like to hear from both!!

Manda is the wifi aspect a problem? I would have hands down chosen the nook if it had the network that a kindle has.

I agree that I like the look of the Nook () better but I want to be able to download anywhere I am just so confused

its like the more research I do the harder the decision becomes!!!

Since you did purchase a Nook I'm sure you know that the Nook uses both AT&T's 3G network (free) and wifi.

I just purchased a Nook on Thursday and have been playing around with it a bit and I love it. The touch screen part can be a bit awkward to use at first but I think I got the hang of it. I think it is really just a decision that comes down to personal preferences. I can not wait to actually get into reading with as I am in the middle of the newest Kingdom Keepers book.

I just got the Nook today for my birthday!!! I'm so excited and wasn't expecting it at all. I have been playing with it for about an hour but have yet to purchase a book to put on it. I like that you can lend books to friends. Now I just have to find someone else that has one that I can share books with

The wife and I both have the Nook. She originally wanted a Kindle but we held off. In the end we liked the looks of the Nook better, the in-store experience, SD card, and the wifi.

As has been mentioned previously, it all comes down to personal preference as to Kindle II or Nook. Both are very good devices with there own pluses.

The Nook also has Oberon Design covers.

Us DISers with Nooks probably need to look into the "Lend Me" capabilities a bit further so we can share books. :)

I have a Nook as well. I bought one because 1)I work at Barnes and Noble so I felt that I needed to support my store, 2) I like that you can connect to AT&T's 3G network, and 3) I can read books while sitting in the store for free. I really love my Nook, but I must admit that I was trying to decide between my Nook and a Kindle. Congratulations on your new Nook! :)

Due to the current state of affairs between the manufacturers of ereaders and book publishers, most publishing houses are not allowing this to be done.

In addition, any book that can that does qualify, can only be lent once and only for 14 days.

Once lent...it can not be lent again.

My Fiance would like to buy me one but I am not sure which is better and would like a little help from my DIS friends! HELP!!!!:confused3:confused3

Ipad, because you can buy books from both services, as well as iBooks! ;-)

However, if that does not float your boat (am addicted to mine now), I'd probably go with the Kindle. Although I am sure it will appear in future, as of now I can't find a nook desktop app. Kindle gives you the ability to use them on the kindle, on your PC or Mac and on an iphone, ipad and I believe they either have or shortly will, reader apps for most major smartphones - Blackberry, Android, iOS4.

But consider the ipad or another tablet. Haven't had any issues with eyestrain, as a media consumption device its fantastic and most of the OS flaws are corrected with iOS 4 (flash support the exception, although there is a program called CloudBrowse that makes it possible to use Flash on an iphone. It isn't good for streaming video but is great for Flash sites). I know Pete has sung its praises and it doesn't seem like much until you actually start using one... then you start to find all these little new things that become an extension and improvement of various tasks. I use mine to read books, comic, as a notepad, as a checklist, as a browser, even as an IT support device for troubleshooting connectivity or remote access to a machine.

I think this is a great idea as well!

Unfortunately, in this case it won't work. Kevin is right... you can only do it once. Personally, I think B and N made a huge mistake rolling this out. Either they didn't expect the lending feature to be crippled by the manufacturers when they announced... or they are way overconfident about the appeal of a one time lend... or they expect consumers not to notice until they buy it and then don't think it will tick them off.

Should have saved the feature for a future OS update once negotiations were done with the publishers.

I too, have an iPad and agree with everything you say.

My only quibble would be that while you CAN read books on an iPad, it's awkward to hold as it's big and heavy.

If you sit and hold your iPad in your lap...or are willing to prop it up...it's fine, but as a person who reads in bed and other less perfect places, iPad can be cumbersome to use as a reader long term.

Don't Know if I should post this in this thread or should have started a new one but both Amazon and Barnes & Nobles announced price drops today. The Kindle is now $189 and The Nook $199. Also B&N announced a new 3gless wifi only Nook for $149.
