I know it is a sad topic but i have no idea what to do. They said it is in the progressive stages, but he is doing ok and does not seem to be in pain. Still eating etc, but they want to move him to another high protein food to deal with anemia. They don't figure he will make it til the end of the year. But we can start him on pills (very expensive) to help maybe slow it down. I had my very first cat put down at the beginning of the year, and now i need to make the decision again. However, the other cat was old. This cat we figure is around 8 yrs old/(Not sure because we adopted him from SPCA 3 yrs ago) so there is a possiblity he could be old the vet said. But he is the BEST cat we ever knew. My kids will be devasted. But i don't want them to go through seeing him at his worst.

Not sure if i need advise or support. thanks for reading :sad1:

Poor baby-that is much too young BUT I had a cat w/kidney failure that with diet and meds lived another 5 years after being diagnosed! My friend has one right now that is 16yrs old and has been in failure for the past 4 years sooo don't despair. With the right meds and food your baby can live for some time to come. Age for sure is on his side!:grouphug:

We are going back to the vet today but from the phone conversation, sounds like it may have progressed alot. The cat was 14 pds 2 yrs back, and his last check up in Nov he was down to 10pds and they thought that was a great weight for him but at that time we had no idea that he had this. then he went in last week and his weight is down to under 7pds. He was under the weather a few weeks back but seemed to bounce back. I feel bad for not taking him in then for check up as i thought he would bounce back. He seems to have but now that his weight is down that much, i am feeling bad that i did not watch the signs earlier...

Awww don't beat yourself up. I had a kitty a few years back that I missed some signs and it still kills me. We do the best we can do and we are not perfect. Let's hope with some treatment and food he can perk up..poor baby, so sad.

My thoughts are with you. Please don't blame yourself. It sounds like you have given him great care and at his suspected age I wouldn't have expected him to be sick either. :grouphug:

Hi,

I just wanted to offer some support. I can't really give you advice, that choice is up to you, depending on the situation. Obviously, you love your cat a lot and you can't second guess yourself. The point is that you took him and now you know what you are dealing with.

Hugs to you. I have a cat and he is 3 yrs old now and he is our baby. I would fall apart if anything happens to him. Our Sylvester is the focus of our family.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

For this hard time I give you lots of hugs. You will make the right decision, just do what your heart tells you. The vet should be able to give you some sound advice on what to expect next.

thanks for the comments, he is doing so well right now that i can;t think of him getting worst. Hopefully he will still have many months, but i don't know if that is in the cards. :grouphug:

Awww..we are pulling for him. Sending prayers and the best of wishes to him. He has lots of love from his Mom..:grouphug:
