ot: I've got a rebate wwyd question.......

We live in the middle of nowhere. We drive about an hour to do major shopping. We bought some new telephones.

There was a $20 rebate on them. The next day, I read over the rebate and it said you could do it online. Great because I'd probably forget otherwise. I filled out the request online.

The next day dh hooks up the new phones, after charging them for 12 hours and they don't work. At all.

We drove the hour each way to return them and get new ones the exact same model.

We hook these up and there's so much static on the line that it sounds like you're working the mcdonald's drive thru.

So again, we drove the hour each way and retuned them for our money back.

I offhandedly said to dh, "Well we might've made $20 bucks but we spent a lot in gas too." He said, "oh no. If they do send us the rebate check, we're either not cashing it or sending it back."

I just never would have even thought that was stealing or something. He's an eagle scout and thinks like that.

So wwyd?

And no flames, I have not even gotten the check and maybe won't if they have a way of tracking it. just wondering since I've never been in this situation before.

Not sure where you bought the phones, but I would venture to say that most big retailers have a way to track their rebates vs returns....no idea though.
