My DD is starting kindergarten next week and I am not ready! Just looking for other moms out there who are not ready for their babies to start kindergarten to share (and probably cry) with.

I'll start with my story. My DD, Jordan, starts kindergarten on Thursday, August 28th. I don't know if it is because she is young (she is still 4 she won't turn 5 until Sept. 10th) or because she is an only child or what but I am having a hard time with the fact that my baby is going to school! She attended preschool starting at age 2 so its not like this is her first school experience but something about her going to "real" school just seems too grown up for my baby. I took the day off work to take her and pick her up and will probably need the in between time to compose myself!

BTW. . .she is ready and Dad is ready - it's just mom that is not ready.

Anyone else feeling this way? Please share. . . maybe we can make each other feel better or console each other as each starting date comes.

My DD started Kindy last Friday. She loves it, but it was really hard for me! I'm doing ok with it now. She only goes 1/2 day, so that helps. She is actually an October birthday, so she is almost 6. She was totally ready, yet I wasn't. She's my youngest, so my babies are all gone now! :sad1:

My youngest DS started kindergarten last year. Luckily we are one of the only schools in the area that still have half day kindergarten, so he was home by 11:00am! The problem is that now he is going to 1st grade in a couple of weeks and will go all day. :sad2: I am really dreading this and am sure I will need some support come Sept. 2nd. :grouphug:

I am raising my dgrandson (5) because his mom (my dd) died 2 years ago. I'm not upset about his going to kindergarten - I'm upset because his mom isn't here to do it.:guilty:

:grouphug: Midge D79 - I am so sorry for your loss! I am sure this is a very hard time - each milestone will probably be hard without her here to enjoy it with you.

Stacey and Momof2disboys - Thanks for sharing! I am so glad I am not the only one having a hard time! DD only goes a 1/2 day too - I hope I don't go through this again next year!

Anyone else feeling a little blue?

So far. .

I need hugs on 8/28
Momof2disboys needs hugs on 9/2

My DS started K today and had a blast. Although came home really cranky LOL. He is exhausted. He's used to getting naps every other day or so LOL. He says hes ready for tomorrow though LOL. For me its bittersweet. He is my oldest. I have a 3 yr old, 2 yr old, and 6 month old here at home so I was still sooo busy LOL. It was really weird to make lunch for the littles and only grab 2 little plates instead of 3 LOL. His school is from 8:30-3. CRAZy!

Mine starts officially on 8/27. I'm not sad as much for him starting Kindergarten, but I'm sad about leaving our current Montessori. He's had 3 good years there. It's sad to say good bye.

DD had first day of Kindergarten today. I just picked her up and she loved it....so I guess we'll go back tomorrow. LOL

My DD (my baby) starts K this year. I am not sad in the sense that I'll miss her; I'll actually see her more this year as she will be attending full time where I teach 1st grade. She will now be riding with DS and I to and from school and having breakfast with us instead of being with DH or Grandma during the day. :goodvibes But, I still can't believe that my baby girl is old enough for K. She is so grown-up.:sad1: I am getting old.:scared1:

Nope, I'm ready:thumbsup2 !

Serousily, DD6 will be in half day K, we also have a DD13 going into 8th grade. DD6 is my "strong-willed" child, and this summer has been interesting to say the least! Our kids don't go to school until after Labor Day.

My four yr old Ds starts after labour day.
I am better prepared this time than when dd started. But I am still nervous for him. Doesn't help that he is only four and just lost his first baby tooth!
Slow down already!:sad2:

My daughter starts preschool next Monday, she's 3 and I'm probably going to take it harder than she will. She'll only be gone 4 days for 4 hours but it's already heartbreaking to me. She's growing up to fast and so is her little brother.

My dd started last Wed and loves it. Our school has a 'Boo Hoo Breakfast' for the kindergarten moms. We all stood outside, had a couple donuts, and cried together. Actually, the crying was short lived but it was a great opportunity to get to know the other moms.

DD started back 8/13. At first I thought I was cool with it. I am home with the girls all day and work evenings after DH gets home. My oldest is 5 1/2. Since she was born I haven't had 5 minutes of regular "me" time, I'm either with the girls or I'm working. So I was thinking I will finally get a few hours to myself since DD#1 will be in K 5 mornings a week and DD#2 will be in preschool 3 mornings a week. But then I went to her orientation and that sort of freaked me out. It was very unorganized and they didn't have 1/2 the stuff in the packet that they claimed was in the packet. None of the staff was friendly and several questions I asked got an I'm not sure answer. And basically we just kept running from place to place trying to get all the information we needed. I left sort of panicked.

But DD is settling in fine. There is a girl in her class she knew from preschool and she is excited about getting to play on the "big kids" playground this year instead of the preschool playground.

I am an absolute wreck over my three year old starting preschool.:lmao:

Haven't even thought about kindergarten yet, but just wanted to say, I'm totally with all the moms who have that angst, and I had a nice good cry about it the other night.

Although I only feel slightly better, I do know in the long run this will benefit him. It's just so hard to admit he's not my baby anymore.:sad1:

I know how you feel.....but my 4 year old is starting preschool. Our township has bussed preschool 5 days a week. She doesn't turn 5 til December so she missed the cut off for kindergarten. Just the thought of putting her on the bus takes my breath away.

We got her ariel backpack in the mail yesterday with her little name on it and she is so excited. I don't think my husband is nervous at all.

I was glad for my DD to start Kindergarten (DS was in Montessori, as was DD, when he was that age, so no distinction between grades anyway). The only problem for her was that she went from Montessori to a traditional kindergarten. Academically, it was a wasted year. Socially, it was fun.

I have heard of mothers crying - sorry, I totally can't relate. I am with them ALL THE TIME except when they are in school. I'm not burned out, just happy to see them go off into the world (koo koo kitchoo).

Now I like the fact that they can stay home without me for a while at a time. My daughter loves the independence (her older brother calls every, maybe, 10 or 15 minutes :confused3 ) DH and I can actually go down the street for dinner alone after I get them fed and ready for bed :cool1: Life Is Good!:thumbsup2

Don't feel too bad, though I know it can be hard. I always is for me. My DS 5 starts grade 1 in Sept. It makes me sad! :sad1: It will be hard to have him gone all day. I will be having him come home for lunch as much I can ;) It was especially hard when he started junior kindergarten he was only 3, because his birthday is in November.... My youngest also has a November b-day so it will be the same with him :sad2:

Good luck, and keep your chin up, you'll both be fine! :thumbsup2

I agree that it is bittersweet to see them grow up and start "real" school. My middle child will start K in 2 weeks and is very exited to go. This from a child who dreaded her 2 years of preschool and put up a fight more days than not. I've been so nervous for this time to come that I would have "THE CLINGING-CRIER" come day 1 of school, but now she keeps talking about how exited she is. I don't know what brought about this sudden change, but I am really grateful and relieved to know she isn't scared. Hopefully that won't change!

Good luck to those of you who are having a tough time letting your "babies" go.
:grouphug:

My dd is starting kindergarten on August 25th..I am a little sad (but I don't tell her that) but also excited for her. She is really looking forward to it. She just turned 5, so she will be one of the youngest (the cut off date is Sept 1st). I have stayed home with her the last five years, and now she will be off to school full-day from 8:15am-3:15pm Monday through Friday, spending her time with her friends and teachers...she's ready, but I am not!
