I am looking for some good idea's to raise some funds.. around $6,000 to be exact. I found out today that I can go to the states and some medical work done on me but I will have to pay for it... plus travel expenses and all the other stuff that goes with it will be about $6,000. OHIP will cover part of the surgery but not all. This is all to correct a surgery gone wrong in Canada that the Doctors here can not fix. I don't have the money for this, but would love it done soon and be pain free but this cost is holding me back. I thought of selling McMillians cookie dough but you make $2.50 on each item sold so that would not add up really well.. I thought of a letter writing campaign.. "send a dollar to this address stuff " :lmao: yes I am trying to keep my sense of humor in this But I am really not sure what else to do. I can't get a loan since we are tapped out.. and I am not able to work right now. any thoughts?
Have any of you ever done a larger scale fund raiser in the past that can share some advice. my DH would have to do it all since the extent of my activities and checking email and going to the bathroom other than that I am on the couch.

I will take any and all suggestions and see what may work out for us.

I raise funds for my DD's dance company. We have enormous travel and tuition expenses every year. Without much effort I manage to recoup about 15% of my expenses.

We sell Poinsettias at this time of year with a return of approx 30%. You need to find a local grower that will wholesale to you. We also do MacMillans and the return is 20-25%.

We are working on spring events right now with things like a 50/50 draw and Montagne's products.

Check out Fundscrip. You can raise funds from your everyday shopping and if you get some friends and family in on it it can really add up fast.

What about asking some friends to throw a 'Jack and Jill' type party? See if anyone has connections to get donated items and have a silent auction.

This is a bit of a prairie thing, but don't know why other places don't do it. We hold "socials" to raise money. It started out as a young couple who were getting married a way to raise funds for their new life together and help with wedding costs. We rent a hall or community club, get a liquor license, a DJ, get donations from their places of work, community, beer companies, pepsi, coke, etc, and make up raffle prizes. Then you sell tickets for $10 for entry, and raffle tickets for the prizes.

The evening is spent dancing, socializing (hence the name), a late lunch (cold cuts, bread, pickles, cheese) trying to win prizes. Anywhere from a couple hundred to several thousand can be made.

This is a popular route for communities to help those in need. Just like a family who lost their home in a fire, or medical bills not covered, etc. When it's a cause like bad luck vs. a young couple getting married, the charitable socials tend to get free advertising and more donations for prizes or food.

Hope things get better soon! good luck!

That's exactly what we call a 'Jack and Jill'.

there are many places that can help you fund raise. For example, you can book your closest Chapters, Coles, or Indigo for a night and proceeds from all the books bought at the event will go to you.

There are also some comedy clubs that will sell you a whole block of tickets to one of the nights, and you just sell the tickets and keep the money

Have you considered talking to a service group such as the Lions, Kinsmen, or Legion?
