When we started the whole thing I made sure to tell them that the chances where slim that they would make it. I guess I did a good job preparing them because they took it better than I though.

I'd be a wreck. I commend you for your efforts and at least they little ones knew somebody cared for them.

I showed this thread to my DD9 the other day and she was of course bowled over by their cuteness, and by your generosity in caring for them. I told her yesterday that they didn't make it, and this time it was my turn to be bowled over. She said, "I wish we would have found them. Even knowing that they would have died, I would have wanted to take care of them and make them happier for a few days."

Kids are resilient, and understand and accept things sometimes easier than we can. Glad your kids took it well.

I'm sorry to hear that they passed away. Last year we had a sweety of a baby but we put a bed that was ment for small animals in his cage and he chewed a hole in it and suffercated. It was so sad because he was almost ready to go live outside We made our own milk and these odd protine balls they worked like a charm. The thing with them being babies is that if you feed a dehydrated one(even milk) they will die

I had no idea of that when we started. I found out from another web site but it was already too late. If I ever have the opportunity to help baby animals again I will start with a trip to the local vets office first.
