Hi All ~ I was just at Walmart and there was a HUGE line at electronics for one of those new video games. I couldn't help it....I stopped and loudly said sarcastically, "Just so long you all know what Christmas is REALLY all about!" One man laughed. I'm usually don't so judgemental, however, I don't understand the importance of wasting time..in a line..for a THING..that makes kids stare at a glowing box for hours. So many kids have absolutely NOTHING. Okay....I'm off my soap box now. Blessings, Sandra

I hear ya!
we told the kids the trip WAS their present and they are getting one thing under the tree.. It is far more important to make family memories then get "stuff" they just don't need!
In fact their present is Disney related.. we got some pearls from Japan set in a necklace setting and a chain to go with it.. I am sure they will like that!

That's awesome! Good for you! As far as 'things' go...we all end up getting thing we need or want during the year. I just don't understand the mad rush to 'get' 'buy' 'have' more. And to stand in line for it! :sad2:

I question if it's the kids who want the new video games or the parents WANT the kids to have it.

I asked my kids if they wanted the new game players. They said, nope...they already have PS2 and still enjoy it. I have kids who still like like camping, Disney and hanging out with family.

Santa is bring games.....board games that we can all play together....oh yeah...and Disney Scene It. That's as close to a TV game as we'll get this year. Heeheehee!

Blessings, Sandra

Heehee. How many hours have you stood in line at Disney to ride a ride you have ridden sooooooooooo many times before??? ;) There are so many people who don't even get to go on vacation but we go to the same place over and over and over. :)

Maybe playstation is just another person's Disney. I'm sure they think we are all insane as well.

For me Christmas is all about being home with my family or out for dinner with my family and all the presents always has been always will be.

Sandra, I agree with you. The last couple of years I've gotten tired with the whole gift buying thing. Last year in my husband's family we told them that we didn't want any gifts and that we weren't buying for the adults. I can tell you I didn't really miss anything. This year I told the kids they were not getting any presents as we are leaving for Phoenix on Christmas day, and that we would do some outlet shopping while we were there. We also have a trip to London planned at Spring Break and one of my daughters is going to Spain with her school. They did not raise a stink about it. Generally through out the year they get most of the things they need for sports, and I'm bad for buying the new DVD's when they come.

I only had to buy three presents for some nieces and nephews and a few small items for the kids Christmas socks, which certainly lowered my stress level.

I just look forward to spending Christmas Eve with the family.

Time to bake some cookies.

Then my DH is doomed because he's obsessed with both...

I figured someone would bring up the disney lines....when my family is in line, we are together...talking...joking...spending time together. We love being together. When my son plays PS2, he is zombie-boy...I don't love that. I'd rather be in a disney line laughing than watch zombie-boy's bionic thumbs. S

My BIL and SIL always say no gifts for them, what they do ask for and they do give to all the family is a gift from here World Vision Gifts
There is gifts like
10 Care Packs

Care Packs provide new clothes, shoes, hygiene products, and toys for children. Item Price: $40

2 Hens and a Rooster

With up to 150 eggs a year, 2 chickens and a rooster are our most popular gift. Item Price: $50

I think it is a great idea.. the kids all pick what they think is needed most and we give a donation in this way.. I would recommend it to anyone! Check out the link. if Christmas is about gift giving like someone here said then make it to someone who NEEDS IT!!!

Ok I am going to get off my soap box now. To Us Christmas is family and celebrating the birth of Christ.

Make him play it with you!!! :rotfl2:

(my son would never do it, but it is a solution and I sure it is done in many families)

I actually didn't mean to comment on the standing in line part so much but more on the fact that you were talking about spending more than we need when so many kids have nothing. We all do that at Disney all the time. It is an obsession, like playstation. We need to go back again and again spending a fortune where we could use all that money for other things and be together in a more simple, less expensive environment. That's what I meant when I said that one person's Disney is another person's playstation.
