I posted this on the transportation board but didn't get much of a response, so I thought I would hit up all you family folks for info.

It recently occurred to me that the last time we drove to WDW, DS was only a toddler and slept in a porta crib. Now he is 4 and obviously will be in a bed. Does this limit us as to where we can stay on the way down? Can you stay in a regular hotel room with 5 and could we get a roll away for him or something? We could bring our blow up mattress, but that is a lot of blowing. Depending on how this works though, we may sneak him in on that.

So, bigger families, what do you do? Once in Orlando we are staying in a condo, so no biggie there. It is just the trip down that has me stumped.

Hi!

When we travel with my parents (which is rare but has happened a few times) they generally try to get ressies at Comfort Suites. We have stayed at one with them quite a few times near my brother's house.

The rooms are not 'suites' with kitchens or anything; rather they are a standard hotel room, with an extra little area between the bedroom and the bathroom, with a partial dividing wall and a sofabed. This means that the rooms sleep 6.

I am sure that there are other hotels that have similar arrangements. I know it entirely depends on the area where the hotel is, but this one we have stayed at many times is usually around $79 a night, so not bad for a clean hotel with a pool and a nice continental breakfast.

When we drive down we can still get my 11,8 and 3 year old in one bed- it is only one night after all.... I now go with 4 children and I am happy to see the Comfort inn post. None of the 24 hour places ask how many are in your party. We have never had a problem with our group in a room. And you are there for probably less than 12 hours.. don't sweat it. It will work out.

When we needed a stay over on the way down we stopped in Gainesville or Ocala. The room was two doubles but I asked if they had a rollaway bed and they did. When we got there, very late at nite, I was so happy to see that they did in fact, place it in the room for us. Just find a hotel and ask, you never know they may have them, they may offer them for free, or even for a small fee.

Our family of 5: we usually get a room w/ 2 queens (I'm picky) and one of our kids sleeps on the floor (we take the comforters, fold them up, then put one of the extra blankets down for a comfy bed). Our kids argue who gets to sleep "on the floor"....

Thanks guys! Sorry it took so long for me to answer--I have been out of town.

Good to know that most places don't ask. I think we will go ahead and bring the blow up mattress. My sis was telling me they have a thing that inflates that plugs into the wall, so I think I will go ahead and get it as we need it fairly frequently. I would prefer to just stay in a somewhat cheaper place and no fold out couch as neither DH nor I want to sleep on one and we each sleep with one of the older kids.
