OT - home phone rules for your tween?

We got our DDs phones for Christmas this year, we gave them early tho because we wanted them to have them when we to DLR for Tgiving. My girls were 13 & 9 when they got phones, we added them to our plan, upped the minutes and added unlimited texting on them all. So far so good......and yes, they needed phones, DBF and I both work away from our home town so if the girls need us for anything they MUST be able to call us. We resisted as long as we felt we could, but with DD13 starting Marching Band we decided it was time.

give a time limit, like when 6:00 pm they should not hold their phone if they are going to use it banned them, that method is really effective try it

My dd cell phone and land line rules are about the same. When she gets home from school the phone is mine until homework is done. She does not talk or text during meals. When she goes to bed the phone is mine again. She is even amazed that her friends will call or text her late at night...."shouldn't they be in bed? I know I need my sleep."

It has never been an issue about our rules for any phone use. We explain why we have the rules we do and she goes along.(most of the time ) The only thing she didn't like was having to wait so long to get one....she got her first cell phone this year for her birthday...8th grade and turned 14. We also gave her phones to pick from and she picked the one she wanted from the choices we gave her. Until she had a cell phone she used the home phone with the same rules. Her friends called her at home just the same as they call her cell now.

She does take it to school and I usually get a text on the bus in the morning and coming home. I get sweet "I love you mama" most of the time. and I will take them as long as I can. The school makes the kids keep cell phones in their lockers during class.
