We got our DDs phones for Christmas this year, we gave them early tho because we wanted them to have them when we to DLR for Tgiving.
My girls were 13 & 9 when they got phones, we added them to our plan, upped the minutes and added unlimited texting on them all. So far so good......and yes, they needed phones, DBF and I both work away from our home town so if the girls need us for anything they MUST be able to call us. We resisted as long as we felt we could, but with DD13 starting Marching Band we decided it was time.

) The only thing she didn't like was having to wait so long to get one....she got her first cell phone this year for her birthday...8th grade and turned 14. We also gave her phones to pick from and she picked the one she wanted from the choices we gave her. Until she had a cell phone she used the home phone with the same rules. Her friends called her at home just the same as they call her cell now.
and I will take them as long as I can. The school makes the kids keep cell phones in their lockers during class.
